Foolish Mortals

Critic Reviews for Foolish Mortals
With a captivating story and cast of characters, wonderful art style and soundtrack, and some truly genre-redefining design, Foolish Mortals is an outstanding point-and-click adventure that plays like a modern classic.
Foolish Mortals is at its core a charming adventure, held back by a weaker script, an overlong running time, and an unbalanced art style. Even so, it offers plenty of reasons to like it.

Foolish Mortals is, above all, a love letter to longtime fans of the genre. While the influence of the classics is clearly present, it becomes a true nostalgia trip without directly copying them. It could have used a bit more fine-tuning here and there, but if you enjoyed the ’90s entries of series like Monkey Island or Broken Sword, it’s unmissable.

Foolish Mortals is a loving throwback to point-and-click Lucasarts games like Full Throttle, with quality voice acting and clever puzzles set in a richly designed, fictional Louisiana bayou. It’s a ton of well-designed fun, and stunningly well-polished for a game from apparent newcomer designers Inklingwood. With a cozy tone and a light supernatural style, it’s definitely a must-play for Tim Schaefer fans — or anyone who loves a good story.
Foolish Mortals does a good job of a lot of things, and once it gets going it offers a spooky good time for fans of adventure games. It doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel and I do wish its interface had a bit of an overhaul but fans of adventure titles will have an excellent time with it. This isn’t a game that’s going to win over anyone who doesn’t already love the genre though.
It may sound far-fetched, but Foolish Mortal leaves you with the taste of a great adventure, like the ones we used to play in the 90s and get excited about. Just like its "mentors" did.
If you grew up on classic adventure games, or want something cosy with a touch of spooky, Foolish Mortals is well worth your time. Inklingwood Studios has created a thoroughly enjoyable ghost story: eerie, funny, and full of charm.
A deep bow to the point-and-click ancestors like Monkey Island. Foolish Mortals is a delightful and beautiful modern point-and-click game that unfortunately doesn't have the same clever writing as its predecessors.
