Etrange Overlord is a unique action game exploring the story of a villainess unfairly condemned to hell.

Etrange Overlord is one of the more unique action RPGs I've played in quite some time; hard to not be when the game is basically a musical set in hell. Its unique gameplay elements, cast of characters, and sense of humor carry it through when the action and setting start to wear thin.
Etrange Overlord is a short and sweet RPG that doesn't overstay its welcome, and hits all the right notes in its relatively short runtime.
Etrange Overlord is a brave departure for its developers, and is worth playing, even if it's not destined to be regarded as a classic.
Etrange Overlord is a fun experience that will have you laughing and smiling. The gameplay can be a bit basic, but it still has its moments of fun.
Combat lacks depth, customization lacks variety, and multiplayer fails to deliver beyond its surface promise. What remains is a conveyor belt adorned in charming visuals, moving at a pace that never allows the experience to evolve into something greater. Etrange deserved a stronger game, and so do we.
A fun musical action RPG journey through hell
Etrange Overlord as a game is merely alright at best, and it feels like I’m experiencing the worst version of it. The original webnovel features the story without any gameplay interruptions, and the manga adaption is much nicer to look at with expressive artwork.
The repetitiveness of the gameplay loop is certainly less of an issue in short bursts, which is how I would approach Etrange Overlord, but I can't help but feel strangely compelled by the lane system and the strategy needed to survive some of the more diabolical challenges, like holding a key aloft until it finishes materializing, all while avoiding enemies attack from every direction. Those moments are the ones that drew me in, even if the aesthetic and story elements held little appeal for me. If you're into the art style and don't mind Etrange's constant need to be the center of attention, you may find an interesting time-sink type of action-RPG. If you're more put off by the anime-style storytelling, chibi-looking characters and combat mechanics that lack real depth, I'd say skip this one, just like I ended up skipping Etrange's musical numbers.
Etrange Overlord is one of the most unconventional RPGs that I've ever played and despite its repetitive gameplay, there's a lot of lighthearted fun to be had as you gradually upgrade your chums and take in all the fun-filled musical moments with its charming cast of goofballs. 🔥
The qualities of Estrange Overlord are clear, despite the limitations in gameplay, such as the limited number of combat forms and the lack of a Spanish translation. The game wins through its incredible narrative and charisma. The art by Shinichi Otsuka and the work of Sohei Niikawa compensated in this project. The game could have made better use of its music, which I thought would have been more beneficial in-game, but despite minor stumbles, the game remains worthy and delivers everything it sets out to deliver.

Etrange Overlord turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Beneath its unusual story lies a fast and accessible action RPG that’s easy to enjoy in short bursts. The combat is simple but entertaining, the rotating lane mechanic adds a bit of variety, and the cast of characters gives you plenty of options when building your party. The story can occasionally run longer than necessary, but it also provides many of the game’s funniest moments thanks to Étrange’s confident personality. If you enjoy anime-style RPGs and don’t mind a narrative that takes centre stage, Etrange Overlord is well worth a look. It’s a slightly odd adventure, but that’s very much part of its appeal.
The ordinariness of Etrange Overlord's gameplay somewhat limits the enjoyment of the game, even though Etrange Overlord succeeds in fulfilling its promise of offering a light and accessible experience, especially due to its graceful narrative and visual presentation.

The goal of Etrange Overlord is what makes it a game. It tries to combine action RPG elements with melodic storytelling, funny writing, and a unique way to play called "lanes." These things sometimes work so well together that they create moments that are truly fun, charming, and memorable.
Etrange Overlord is a uniquely musical adventure, which struggles a bit to fit in enough of the action between charming cutscenes.
Etrange Overlord is a delightful, chaotic RPG that sings with personality and bursting with charm even with its minor hiccups and limited game depth.
Estrange Overlord is a fun and quirky title. The humor, story, and characters were interesting enough to keep me going.
If you're looking for a silly, short adventure with the kind of slapstick humor that will make you genuinely laugh, give Miss Étrange von Rosenburg a chance.

Etrange Overlord is a classic case of a game hiding its true value between its surface level qualities. It has the developers’ trademark humor and audiovisuals, coupled with some very basic controls, only dragged down by some very rough camerawork and first impressions. But beyond that, it offers an incredibly diverse experience and a memorable story; easily another gem for Nippon Ichi’s already star-studded lineup.
