Townfall brings decent puzzles and workable stealth, but its obvious storytelling and weak atmosphere leave it feeling like a rare miss for modern Silent Hill.

Silent Hill: Townfall makes a convincing case for psychological horror beyond familiar ground, pairing a superb Scottish setting with strong atmosphere and storytelling. Frustrating stealth and fading reliance on the CRTV keep an otherwise memorable descent from reaching greater heights.

Silent Hill: Townfall is the revival this franchise needed. By moving locations and shrouding the release in complete mystery, the team at Konami have delivered arguably the best horror game of 2026.

Silent Hill: Townfall continues to prove that taking Konami’s long dormant horror franchise on a world tour was the right choice, as Screen Burn has crafted an excellent narrative that gets the most out of its setting through weaving unique cultural trauma with the series’ distinct exploration of grief, backed by some stellar performances and visuals. Though the gameplay also has some great moments of its own, particularly in its puzzles, combat often stumbles into a mess of frustration and tedium, leaving the experience feeling admirable but uneven.

Silent Hill: Townfall successfully adapts the series to a first-person perspective, with strong environmental design, oppressive sound work, intricate puzzles, and a greater emphasis on stealth and limited resources. The CRTV mechanic gives exploration and puzzle-solving a distinct identity, while St. Amelia provides a convincing new setting for the franchise. Inconsistent enemy behavior, limited creature variety, and overly obscure puzzles can create frustration, but the game remains a technically confident and atmospheric interpretation of Silent Hill.

Silent Hill often aims to remind us that the real horrors aren’t the ones on screen, they’re the ones within us. As somebody who is fearfully weak to horror, and emotionally weak to a well-written narrative, Silent Hill: Townfall feels like what video games are supposed to be. It engaged me so much that it made me scream, and made me feel so much that it felt like my heart was sinking. Konami created a universe through which some of the most captivating stories can be told, and Screen Burn Interactive have told the best of its stories so far. Although I suspect it took a year or so off of my life, it was well worth it.

Silent Hill: Townfall introduced us to the Silent Hill universe from a slightly different perspective than we're used to, while still staying true to what defines the series: atmosphere and storytelling.

Born as a 'minor' game, the title developed by Screen Burn takes all the elements that distinguish the Silent Hill series and adds its own touch, such as the first-person view, giving life to a high-quality game. The story manages to keep the mystery alive until the end, while St. Amelia's setting, the psychological horror, and the use of the CRTV help give Townfall its own identity without straying from what made the series famous.

Screen Burn’s offering is the latest entry in the celebrated horror series and apart from some snags in the stealth department, it ticks all the right boxes with its well designed puzzles, gripping story and eerie atmosphere.

Silent Hill: Townfall understands that horror doesn't always come from fighting monsters. Sometimes it comes from walking through an unfamiliar place, hearing something nearby, knowing you have limited resources, and realizing that you may not understand what is happening around you.

The puzzles are well-executed, the gameplay is generally enjoyable, and the storytelling and symbolism are very well thought out. Almost every object and enemy in the game has a meaning, and all of these are designed in a way that is consistent with the Silent Hill world.

Sometimes all it needs is another town, another damaged mind, and enough fog to make taking the next step feel like a terrible idea.

Silent Hill: Townfall is a top-tier horror title—at once political and intimate, albeit occasionally imperfect—in which St. Amelia lingers with you even after the credits roll.

Silent Hill: Townfall is a solid game that checks all the right boxes, featuring a compelling story, clever puzzle design, and good gameplay variety. On the flip side, even its brightest moments suffer from inconsistencies. As the characters' presentation in the story falls flat, and the game loses much of its steam in the final act. The result is an enjoyable yet flawed experience that raises serious questions about Konami's business strategy for the franchise. Handing development out to multiple studios rarely works without strict creative benchmarks in place; more often than not, it leads to disjointed entries lacking a cohesive vision—and the franchise's post-Silent Hill 4 era is proof enough of that.

When Silent Hill: Townfall was being showcased, my biggest fear was that it might be a passive horror game where the player has no autonomy to defend themselves. After playing it, I have done almost a 180 on that. I loved the atmospheric horror moments, sneaking and avoiding, attempting to distract them, and moving around them. The combat could have bolstered this and made you feel that stagnation in an unchanging experience, but it was almost entirely underwhelming. Any moment where it became clear I would need to was met with a long, exasperated sigh. Why that hurt is that the game built such an inviting world of horror that I was ready to embrace wholeheartedly.

We’re looking at a solid survival horror that relies heavily on the atmosphere and the classic conventions associated with Konami’s iconic survival horror series. Fans of the genre, and especially of the series, shouldn’t miss it, though they shouldn’t expect an experience on par with the original titles. Overall, it’s an engaging and enjoyable game, with some excellent puzzle ideas.

Silent Hill Townfall offers an alluring experience that manages to feel unique whilst still maintaining that classic Silent Hill sense of horror. The narrative is tantalising, the gameplay is tense, and the puzzles are expertly designed, ensuring it ticks all of the right boxes for series fans. And sure, the stealth can be a bit hit-and-miss (bordering on completely frustrating at times), but it doesn’t deter from what is otherwise another gripping Silent Hill release.

Silent Hill Townfall offers some welcome new features: lock doors, CRTV/Pager, and first-person view intended to be more distressing. The infiltrations will either be terrifying or frustrating to your tastes and will play on your overall appreciation of the game. A good vintage, that fans of the license or the kind will love but who could seem too cliché and linear to others.

Silent Hill: Townfall is a game that does a great job of establishing its story and atmosphere. It starts off wonderfully but begins to test the player’s patience as it progresses. A game that could have ended just right in 6–7 hours is unfortunately stretched out to 14–15 hours due to repetitive stealth sequences and AI issues, which significantly slows down the pace.

Silent Hill: Townfall is a cinematic, isolated experience with a story full of mystery, set in a village shrouded in a terrifying, heavy fog that I still don’t know how they achieved. Tense stealth sections and solid combat flexibility bring the game home, and while it feels a bit dated, new devices like the CRTV create fantastic gameplay moments. For the most part, this is Silent Hill at its best.
