Even though there have been Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remasters for other systems in the past, this newest version for the Nintendo Switch 2 has them all beat. It combines every new addition and Quality of Life improvement from each iteration and provides them in one convenient package. The only drawback to this version (and yes, it’s kind of a big one) is that there are no save data transfers available from the Switch to the Switch 2. There is also no discounted upgrade path for existing owners of the Switch version.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 remains one of the greatest RPGs ever made. Its emotional story, unforgettable cast, and timeless turn-based combat make it just as captivating today as it was 25 years ago. The Nintendo Switch 2 version is the definitive way to experience the game on a Nintendo console, making it an easy recommendation for both newcomers and longtime fans.

It’s absolutely true, we’re talking about two monumental titles that every role-playing game fan should experience at least once in their lifetime. But this latest re-release of the Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD Remaster doesn’t have much to get excited about. Those who have never visited Spira will find this bundle to be an excellent introduction; those who already have the games in their collection, or own them on other platforms, would probably be better off looking elsewhere.

Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster is an excellent package when judging the two games solely on their own merits. However, a questionable pattern is clearly emerging: Square Enix keeps re-releasing older titles for the Switch 2 as complete editions without offering an upgrade path—paid or free—for those who already own the previous version. Hopefully, publishers will show more flexibility in the future to reward the fans who have supported their libraries. For newcomers to the Final Fantasy franchise, or veterans who have never played Final Fantasy X, this remaster remains a great starting point.

Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster on Switch 2 is an essential pickup for newcomers, bringing timeless combat and game-changing PC boosters to a sharp handheld presentation. However, with almost identical side-by-side visuals, a locked 30fps, and no save transfer option or upgrade path, existing Switch 1 owners should hold off for a decent sale.

Once I let go of the need to play everything perfectly and started to simply have fun, try things out and not try to do everything on the first try, both parts really brought me joy.

Ultimately, the evaluation of this Nintendo Switch 2 edition depends entirely on the individual player's gaming experience. Those who have never had the pleasure of exploring the world of Spira or want to rediscover Final Fantasy X's iconic combat system and gripping Blitzball matches in an excellent portable format will find this package an absolutely unmissable purchase. The game remains a true masterpiece, with a story that remains relevant today and characters that are incredibly relatable. The soundtrack is also one of the most beautiful ever composed in gaming, and the wealth of content between the two chapters that tell the splendid story of Tidus and Yuna is definitely worth the purchase. Conversely, for those who have already thoroughly enjoyed the original work or one of its countless remasters released over the past fifteen years, this offering doesn't introduce anything new that would justify a new investment, reducing it to a simple nostalgia trip devoid of any real innovation.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on Switch 2 is the most complete way to experience one of gaming's most beloved sagas, even if the lack of save transfer from the original Switch version is a real sting for returning fans.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster is a great package with two fun titles from the franchise. FFX is one of the best classic games in the series and closes the more traditional era perfectly, while X-2, despite its weak narrative and strange premise, offers one of the most interesting and engaging combat systems in the series. The new Switch 2 version leaves something to be desired, but this is the best way to experience them on Nintendo's hybrid console if you haven't already bought the Switch 1 version.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remaster consolidates most of the features we've seen in other remasters, bringing a full, ultimate experience to play these classics, but its steep price and no upgrade option for Switch 1 users sting.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster is the definitive version of two of the most important RPGs of all time, featuring updated graphics and quality-of-life improvements for both titles while preserving everything that made Final Fantasy X a milestone in the history of the franchise and Japanese RPGs as a whole.

Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD is better than ever on the Nintendo Switch 2, and I’d be remiss to not encourage anyone who has yet to play these games to do so on the Switch 2 thanks to its helpful gameplay features and sharp visuals. Though the lack of ability to upgrade from the Switch and the inability to skip cutscenes are a bit disappointing, this is an otherwise magnificent collection of two all-timer RPGs, and I hope its extra features somehow get patched into the other versions of the remaster.

Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster for Nintendo Switch 2 purrs with crisp visuals, smooth performance, and long-awaited quality-of-life additions that make returning to Spira more enjoyable than ever. While the lack of an upgrade path and save data transfer is disappointing for original Switch owners, the Switch 2 edition stands as the definitive console version of one of the most beloved RPG collections of all time.

FINAL FANTASY X is one of the greatest accomplishments in gaming history, its success built upon the glorious installments that preceded it. FINAL FANTASY X-2 was lighthearted and unserious (until it wasn’t), a funky, fresh experiment still unique to the series 20+ years later. Whether you see FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster as a thoughtful tribute to timeless classics or a valiant attempt at refining them, you can’t deny that each subsequent release serves as a reminder to fans of the franchise that Square Enix knows it has an incredible world full of poignant stories to share on its hands.

Overall, Final Fantasy X and X-2 are very welcome additions to the Nintendo Switch. You get 2 great games in one package that together offer over 100 hours of gameplay. It’s a bit of a shame the games haven’t incorporated the new quality of life improvements that the Final Fantasy 7 or 9 re-releases have done but if you haven’t played through either of the games previously or want to jump back in with complete freedom of how or where you choose to play, you should definitely consider picking up these JRPG classics on the Switch.

Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster is still a competitive title among similar genres. One of the rare games that had voice dubs for almost every dialog in the game. Newly arranged soundtrack is also candy to the ears. The remastered visuals mainly considered for the PS4 is also well presented on the Nintendo Switch, perhaps even slightly better. The main story plot blended with the timeless cinematic is well proven to be one of the highest quality games even to this day in age.
