Tearaway is an excellent 3D platformer that takes full advantage of everything that Sony’s Vita has to offer. It is amazing what results when a developer, such as Media Molecule, truly “gets” the system that they are working with. This is easily going to be one of the marquee titles for the Vita this holiday season and possibly for the system’s entire lifespan.

The story begins as a terrifyingly handsome (or sexy, if you prefer) face appears on the sun and iota begins his quest to deliver a message to you, the sun.

Tearaway is a handheld masterpiece, and a shining example of how unique hardware features should be handled. Its short running time is mostly overshadowed by its compelling mix of platforming, combat, and personalisation – a brilliantly crafted gameplay combination that'll keep you glued to the wonderful world that Media Molecule has created. This papercraft adventure is easily one of the best that you'll unfold on Sony's portable system.

There are a few small issues with Tearaway, but this game is so enjoyable that you probably won't even notice them.

Younger gamers and those with a flare for design will get the most out of it, but Media Molecule's latest offering will certainly provide pleasure for everyone.

It’s cheerful, colourful. charming and incredibly inventive, making the best use of the Vita’s unique features since the system’s release. It’s a showcase, not just for the Vita but for the creative minds at Media Molecule.

Tearaway follows in the footsteps of Gravity Rush as an example of why you should own a Vita. While it isn’t always perfect as a game, it’s an amazing experience, providing an exciting and emotional journey through a world of beauty and personality.

Media Molecule's shift to the third-person has resulted in a mixed bag - the eye-popping visual style and the story's characteristic earnestness are tempered by clumsy platforming and thematic overcomplication. Tearaway is a very good platformer, but greatness is just out of reach.

Tearaway is a unicorn the Vita has ached to capture. It's an original concept from a world class team created specifically and exclusively for the Vita. It's beautifully rendered in a papercraft art style all its own, and its theme and disposition are unique in its field. Best of all, it interprets the hardware's peculiar control options not as a dutiful obligation but rather as leverage for original ideas; there isn't a single part of the machine that feels wasted. Tearaway comes together by showing its player a good time, and it's intimately focused on driving that final point home.

How do you follow up one of the most successful debut games of all times? Well, by making a sequel of course. But what about after that? How does messing around as a co-developer on a few spin-offs strike you? Hardly taxing though, is it? Regardless at the rising sense of apprehension you may feel, sooner or later you're going to have to strike out and make something new, become innovative again, create rather than repeat. Developers Media Molecule have only just reached this final phase, having spent the last five years playing around with LittleBigPlanet iterations and derivatives. Their first steps with a new intellectual property have been brave ones, leading them onto the Vita and into the paper world of Tearaway.

And then, of course, there’s the fact that puzzle platformers and arty games like this aren’t for everyone. If you’re not into this type of game, Tearaway probably isn’t going to change your mind. In spite of that, I’d still say this is a must-buy for anyone with a Vita. At worst, it’ll make you rethink the value of some of the system’s more “gimmicky” user input mechanisms; at best you’ll get to have your heart set aflame by one of the most adorable, charming, and genuinely moving game experiences to date.

Made out of paper it might be, but Tearaway is anything but flat. This is Media Molecule showing it can make a game as well as it can make a set of creation tools, and it only makes you more excited about what’s to come from them in future.

Media Molecule have set the bar for Vita games; Tearaway is a clever, compelling and charming adventure that plays to the unique strengths of the console, leaving other games looking washed out, outdated and thoughtless. If Tearaway was the only game you played on the Vita, it would be well worth it.

Tearaway is a showcase in what the Vita can do, as it’s a game that can only work on that system, merging the hardware with gameplay into a wonderful package that makes for a truly unique experience that is also a fantastic one.

The creative use of the Vita's many functions, along with the endearing story and lovable characters, makes 'Tearaway' a game that simply must be experienced. I liken the conclusion of the game to the feeling I received when completing thatgamecompany's 'Journey'. It is enough to bring a smile of utter joy to your face while you struggle to hold back tears. There are very few console games that leave a truly lasting affect on me, and even fewer Vita titles. Still, I'm quite happy to add 'Tearaway' into the category of memorable gaming experiences. If you own a PlayStation Vita you would be doing yourself a disservice by not playing this game. Kudos to the highly creative developers at Media Molecule for delivering this gem, it is greatly appreciated.

Tearaway takes its developers’ aims further by coupling the tactile nature of touch screens with constant prompts to bring the player’s face, surroundings, fingers, and creativity into most every gameplay scenario.
