Oculus Rift enhances the familiar platforming in Lucky's Tale, but the VR adventure fails to leave a lasting impression.

Playing Lucky's Tale in VR on the Quest 2 is a fun and delightful experience with a story about friendship. The extra activities that unlock after completing the story mode in each level increase the replayability of Lucky's Tale and break up the otherwise repetitive gameplay. With Lucky's Tale, players can enjoy a few hours of platforming and guided exploration as they make their way through each chapter and complete their quest to save Piggy.

There’s some charm to Lucky’s Tale’s simplicity. It’s not exciting, but it’s finely polished. Old-fashioned 3D platforming is still fun, especially some of the boss battles, which require more precise jumping and dodging than any of the more slowly paced levels. It’s just not remarkable, especially as a showcase for VR.

Lucky's Tale now comes to Oculus Quest 2 a few years after its arrival in the Rift glasses but with many improvements in both handling and display offering a better experience of this fun platform game.

Lucky's Tale hasn't aged perfectly since its 2016 release, but that's its only offense. It was - and still is - an excellent introductory VR title that offers a relaxed environment to get accustomed to VR within a family-friendly format that oozes charm. It's a great title for all age brackets and gaming abilities, but some may be put off by its short length, dated game design, and simple VR integration. Lucky's Tale may feel generic, but the enjoyable, colorful VR title delivers short bursts of happiness.

A fun, nostalgic platformer and a cool use of VR, but repetitive design makes its short length a boon.

I was left wanting more with Lucky's Tale in the end. Each stage presents a fresh new idea, but those concepts are usually a half-measure, and the thrill is over in just a few scant minutes. As a VR experience though, Tale really sells the idea of 3D platformers, and I'd be very happy to play a fully-fledged sequel one day.

The VR platformer genre has seen plenty of innovation since Lucky’s Tale made its debut with gems like Japan Studio’s Astro Bot and Polyarc’s Moss. Still, while it may not be quite as ambitious as those aforementioned adventures, revisiting this family-friendly fox for another go-round on the Oculus Quest 2 was an irresistible treat that my inner child savored from start to finish. It’s a quick burn to be sure, but if you’re looking for a lighthearted romp for your new headset, Lucky’s Tale is pure platforming magic and a must-own addition to any platformer fan’s library.

Lucky's Tale proves that VR and 3D platforming go together like peanut butter and jelly. So, why the heck aren't there more VR 3D platformers? Either way, what you get here is an absolute treat and I even enjoyed it more than the non-VR Lucky's Tale games.

If you’ve yet to play Lucky’s Tale and you’re looking for a cute new 3D platformer to play on your PlayStation VR then I do recommend it. The game looks a bit dated and doesn’t do as much with the medium as some other games have but it’s enjoyable nonetheless. It will provide a few hours of lighthearted fun that anyone in the family can enjoy and the time trials are present for the more skilled players out there to conquer. Hopefully we see more of Lucky in VR in the future.

Lucky's Tale comes free with the Oculus Rift headset, so you might as well play it, especially if you yearn for the colourful platformers of yesteryear.

Lucky's Tale is not a traditional platform. Is the demonstration that Virtual Reality can enhance even the classic genres and speak its own interactive language. A great start for Oculus Rift's Line Up.

Lucky's Tale looks great and plays even better in this well-deserved remaster. With updated, crisp visuals and remastered sound, this is a game that will appeal to young (and young at heart) gamers. Not the longest, not the deepest, but still worth a look for the groundbreaking way it brought platformers to the VR era.

I love Lucky’s Tale, a wonderful platformer that harks back to the good old days of cartoon platformer antics. Easily holding its own against the likes of Mario and Banjo & Kazooie, this should definitely be in your collection of Oculus games alongside heavy weights like Vader Immortal.

Lucky’s Tale was one of the first VR platformers, originally released on the Rift in 2016. Immediately becoming a mascot classically aligned to 3D Mario and Banjo-Kazooie style collection games. The story starts off with you being woken up as your best friend Piggy gets kidnapped by a tentacled monster named Glorp.
