A breezy sci-fi adventure emboldened by its use of VR that is undone by its mundane underpinnings.

The Assembly shows signs of promise, but it stumbles in its attempt to craft a compelling story.

The Assembly is a good idea with great building blocks for its intended exploration and puzzle mechanics but it feels somewhat undeveloped. It'll no doubt leave you intrigued yet ultimately pining for more.

The Assembly fails trying to keep the player's interest due to its extremely slow rhythm and the repetitive gameplay system. Good story, weak controls & targets.

More than just a tech demo, but still far from a defining VR experience – especially given the plain visuals and unfocused story and gameplay.

I’m certainly eager to see where nDreams take us to next, as they hone their craft in developing for virtual reality, but The Assembly is sadly just a first step on that journey. It does some interesting things, with a nicely constructed story split between two characters and contrasting styles of gameplay, and it gets the controls right for first person exploration in VR, but without that, it would struggle to stand out from the crowd.

Although it started out as a VR title, The Assembly feels right at home on Xbox, perhaps even better suited.

From a safe yet unwieldy control scheme to a lack of cohesive content, The Assembly has the edges of a complete adventure game with just a few too many pieces missing from being able to assemble the complete picture.

The Assembly isn't bad, but it's not good either. It's a puzzle game without enough puzzles, and a pretty forgettable plot. A massive downgrade from the PC version of the title, the visuals can induce headaches or nausea if played for too long, and this is made even worse by the fact that the game doesn't need to be in virtual reality to begin with. It's a title that's cynically riding on the coattails of VR novelty, and while that may make for smart business, it doesn't create a great experience.

A well-made game that manages to perfection the tecnique of paralell narrative and offers a very different type of graphic adventure.

The Assembly is an ugly, jagged mess that is just plain dull with lengthy load times and nauseating gameplay

The Assembly is a decent attempt at crafting a world that should make players think about their actions. Just as I was thoroughly enjoying the narrative, however, and the secrets within the organization, the game comes to a close. The moral gray areas ensure that good vs. evil isn’t clearly defined and since there are multiple endings, you'll want to play through it more than once. The game’s length will vary depending on the player’s level of exploration, as I spent roughly four to five hours on my first time through the game..

I’ve had a great story experience with The Assembly. It’s got a wonderful central premise that it explores beautifully, with a world that is full of integrity and intrigue. The sections revolving around Dr Stone are the more successful of the two, with brilliant puzzles and superb conundrums. The game finishes way too early, just as it feels like it’s really starting to find its feet, but maybe that’s okay when you take in the price.

The Assembly is a great experience exploring some intriguing concepts by having you personally make decisions along the way.

The main point that The Assembly let’s itself down is that it is really short. A game costing as much as it does should have extended the playtime by a few more hours. It took me just over 3 hours to finish and that was with me taking my time to explore every nook and cranny of the game. When it was over I didn’t expect it would be over that quickly. I didn’t want it to be over.
