As I sit here and think about my time with Mantic Burning Racing, I do so with a little bit of mixed feelings. On one hand, it’s extremely fun, easy to play, and hard to master. The progression of gaining gears and XP to upgrade cars is fun and addicting. The online portion seems like it would be a blast to play, but sadly there has never been any players I’m able to find online at the same time, a shame though there is also local play if friends are visiting. Just the lack of variation in visuals for tracks and the repeating soundtrack really put a damper on my otherwise fun time. Still, Mantis Burn Racing is worth the time for arcade racing fans.

All of that is say that Mantis Burn Racing isn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination. It’s just that with the dozens of others games vying for my attention, I really never felt like I wanted to boot it up. There isn’t that pull to keep you coming back for more. Which is a real shame because there’s some great racing lurking within here and it’s probably the best looking game of its type out there. It just lacks that certain something which makes games of this ilk compelling to play. When you’re actual races are a little bit dull, perhaps it’s time to go back to the drawing board.

Mantis Burn Racing is a game that has nothing to envy to the rest of similar titles. The amount of content that the game includes, the level of detail and its fantastic execution makes us forget about small problems like the sound effects.

There’s a lot of potential within Mantis Burn Racing, but a lack of content really sells short the fantastic execution. A follow up with more fantastical tracks, and a lot more tracks and vehicles baked in would really be a treat, but I can’t recommend the game right now.

Mantis Burn Racing is a small, but exciting project, which brings us back to the childhood, in the era of the old school arcade racing games, supplanted by popular simulators and modern arcades. Affordable price and nice graphics (especially on PS4 Pro) will be an additional motivation for gamers.

Mantis Burn Racing is a fun racing game that throws out the simulation of modern driving titles, instead opting for the high speed, sand-kicking arcade racer. With nine cars ranging from light, medium, and heavy cars to choose from, players can compete against the AI or online to prove who is king of the racetrack. With a few different events to select from that vary in difficulty, and a host of tracks to race in, this is definitely one of the more enjoyable racers on PlayStation 4. While riddled with glitches and bugs, none is truly game breaking, and can be tolerated by those who are patient, although it is annoying having to constantly restart the game due to freezes and the like.

All in all, if you’re looking for a fun pick-up-and-play game that’s easy to race a round or two and then move on, Mantis Burn Racing might be for you. If you like driving games which offer you the option to tune your machine to the way you like your car to handle, MBR has a promising system to allow you to do just that.

All said Mantis Burn Racing plays brilliantly on the Switch whether in docked or handheld mode. Control is smooth, the drifting is satisfying, and in general it looks great. You can enjoy playing against the AI but it is far better to play with friends locally or online and in general I didn’t have issues finding people to play against since it is cross-platform to boot. If you’re willing to grind through the Career Mode in order to learn the nuances of the controls and unlock everything the game has to offer it does deliver a satisfying payoff, I just wish tastes of it came sooner.

All-in-all, this is an enjoyable game. The way vehicles handle feel great and despite the lack of variety in courses, they are detailed and beautiful. There's many modes to choose from and playing with others with a similar skill level will be fun. It offers a single player career mode with 150-ish events and you can play it in multiple ways. I'd say it's a bang for your buck. The gameplay is really good, but the surrounding parts aren't up to par. It could just use a few more boosts in the balance department.

Due to the portable nature of the Nintendo Switch, Mantis Burn Racing is worth grabbing if you're a fan of arcade racing games. It's perfect for a few quick races while waiting for a bus or a train, especially due to its simple and easy-to-remember control scheme.

It is because of those that Mantis Burn Racing remains an entertaining addition to the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch, with VooFoo Studios delivering a fast-paced experience that is bolstered with the expansive downloadable content. That repetition can soon seep in is a looming threat, but the chance to tweak cars to perfection is a meaningful one that, over time, will let you lean on your strengths in this otherwise addictive, competitive racer.

The game for me suffers from some flaws one of which is not entirely it's fault in that there is hardly anyone playing this online right now. Unless a significant amount of people buy this in the coming weeks then you will struggle to get an online game, however, Voofoo has made every possible effort to include friends whether online or locally which is commendable. The soundtrack was not to my tastes and everything in the game is solid if unspectacular, the campaign is large so there may be enough here to tempt people who are not interested in the online modes. Some may find this too repetitive initially and while it gets better as you delve deeper, nothing can alter the fact that there needs to be a few more tracks and more variation in the landscapes. For those who were big fans of Micro Machines and need that dose of nostalgia then this will scratch that itch. For £15 you can't go too far wrong as the game does offer some fun racing with tight controls which is all packaged up in a game which runs at a buttery smooth 60FPS.

Mantis burn is a different title from the usual, so as to become a title I would say "must have" for your consoles. The title on Switch is so very interesting.

It could benefit from some more tracks (as well as more environments), but Mantis Burn Racing offers simple-to-play racing entertainment across a range of events. With plenty of ways to upgrade your vehicles, they can be customised to your liking as you take on the various challenges the game throws at you. Regular racing is fun, but so are the other events, particularly the battle ones as you race around trying to outrun the hail of bullets or perhaps purposely drop behind to take out your tormentor. As enjoyable as these modes are in single player, they work even better against other people and on Switch there are a number of ways to get your multiplayer fix. Online competition is a welcome inclusion, but the local modes add immensely to the appeal. It's not quite "Game Boy and Tetris", but "Switch and Mantis Burn Racing" fit together well thanks to quick racing thrills and the options provided by an undocked console. If you're looking for some more multiplayer racing action then Mantis Burn Racing is an excellent choice, and yet another must-have title for Nintendo's hybrid console.

Mantis Burn Racing delivers on what it sets out to do: It's a fun, satisfying racing game with plenty of multiplayer options to keep your interest. The circuits have their own characteristics and the different race modes and classes of vehicle keep the game changing just enough to keep you coming back for more. It's top-down racing at its best and being on the Nintendo Switch fits the game like a driving glove.
