Bomberman has always been a series that I’ve held close to my heart, and whilst it might have got off to a rocky start on the Nintendo Switch, the commitment Konami has shown in releasing free updates has been commendable. Everything has been packaged together nicely in Super Bomberman R: Shiny Edition, and it’s helped make it a genuinely worthwhile title in the series that’s an absolute blast to play (both figuratively and literally). Whilst Super Bomberman R’s original release on the Nintendo Switch might have left gamers feeling a bit short-changed, the new ‘shiny’ edition is simply jam-packed with enough content to keep you bombing your friends and online foes for a long time.

Super Bomberman R is the game that Switch needed at its begining. Quick plays and lots of action with your friends in a very entertaining game that brings back the nostalgia.

Super Bomberman R is a no-frills entry in a series which has been dormant for far too long. It's hard to believe, but it has been nearly 10 years since we had a proper Bomberman title on a Nintendo console, and the Switch's unique focus on local multiplayer makes this a perfect fit - we can finally put the Sega Saturn version with its cable-tangling multitap accessory in the cupboard. Support for Switch Pro Controller as well as single and dual Joy-Con play - along with local network and online multiplayer - make this the go-to multiplayer launch title for old-school gamers who those who have never played a Bomberman title before and want to see what all the fuss is about. If you're looking to share the joy with your friends at launch, Super Bomberman R is your best bet, but for those flying solo, it might be a less fulfilling experience.

Super Bomberman R has already launched for the new systems and you have the ability to snag it now for the price of 39.99 USD for all platforms except Nintendo Switch, where it is still 49.99. You will have hours of fun with friends or family, even by yourself. Recommended!

The White Bomber and family head up a worthy return for the Nintendo Switch. Barring hiccups with online lag and repetitious voice clips, Super Bomberman R is a satisfying candidate for multiplayer competitions and online battles.

It's games like this that show the Switch is more than just a Zelda machine.

Bigger multiplayer games may be on the way, but Super Bomberman R will still give you plenty of reasons to gather around the TV – or perhaps even just the Switch itself – for a long time to come.

Overall, Bomberman fans are going to enjoy this entry. It is everything a fan could want out of the game, and while it is an incredibly safe attempt, it was still enjoyable. This is definitely a game to keep an eye on when buying a Nintendo Switch.

Bomberman succeeds perfectly at establishig itself as a good party game on Switch. It manages to keep its fun spirit, mad and colorful that made its past glory. We can only regret that Konami doesn't take any risk and does not try to implement new items, and the precision gets sometimes ruined by the Joy-Con stick. If you're a fan of the ip or the stories lived by your elders got your attention, Super Bomberman R must appear in your Nintendo Switch library.

The in-game currency decision was a head scratcher, as it adds an unwelcome grinding element to much of the gameplay. If you can look past that, then there's a decent campaign and the same addictive multiplayer Bomberman is known for sitting at this launch title's explosive core.

Super Bomberman R is a good game. It’s not that great, but it’s good enough to let me play through all the levels in story mode and a couple of matches with people I know. What’s really great is how many new characters are being added to the playable roster after all these months, with the latest being Solid Snake from the Metal Gear Solid series. Playstation even gets an additional Ratchet and his trusty robot sidekick Clank.

Super Bomberman R is the best multtiplayer option right now for every Nintendo Switch owner. Sadly its main flaw is its input lag, that makes the online battles hard to play in some occasions. Still the 8 player on TV is as fun as in every other game of the franchise. Its single player campaign is fun but too short.

Super Bomberman R is a revival of a great old character and it's a silver lining for Konami fans to hope this company might save its other franchises in near future.

Super Bomberman R doesn’t do anything incredibly unique as far as the series is concerned. Fans of Bomberman will want to pick it up though, since its still a rip-roaring good time with friends.

And that's it. It's Bomberman, man. It feels like an arcade game with a $50 price tag. The campaign isn't as strong as it could be, but there's enough here to keep the series going until Konami can muster up a little more for the next iteration.

The $50 asking price of Super Bomberman R is hardly worth it to play by your lonesome, but as a go-to for when Zelda exhaustion kicks in or siblings get sick of hogged Joy-Cons, there's little reason not to award a sturdy recommend. It provides serious multiplayer mileage, and acts as a return-to-function for the Bomberman franchise, hopefully assisting a more dramatic former-glory restoration sometime in the future.

Super Bomberman R makes its grand debut on PlayStation 4 without any significal changes. The fun part of the game stays with its story mode as well as the local multiplayer, due to the fact that there are barely any active online sessions. The gameplay, albeit simple and effective, feels old-fashioned and it becomes repetitive after some time.
