Call of Duty WWII has enough modes that one of them will find your fancy, but it feels like something great was missed in favour of playing the same safe song once more. Multiplayer will give this game legs if you don't mind the free-to-play intrusions.

Call of Duty's backward leap back to the origins of the second World War setting is incredibly interesting. The zombie mode is fun, allowing us to vary a lot, while at the same time offering a very high and satisfying challenge.

'Call of Duty: WW2' does an admirable job of attempting to recapture the essence of the series' glory days, but even solid design and implementation can't save this game from its inherent flaws. The campaign is good for an evening or weekend afternoon of entertainment, and as always your mileage may vary with the multiplayer.

Call of Duty: WWII features the best gunplay in the series so far, goes back to WWII and comes with new online modes. It is a must for fans of the franchise.

Overall it is an enjoyable experience, with a solid story line some high energy or tense experiences and straightforward enjoyable combat, though it just doesn't feel in the same league as the best in the Call of Duty series.

I still enjoyed Call of Duty: WWII, more so the multiplayer over the campaign, but it had its moments that kept me invested throughout. The multiplayer feels "back to basics" like what Modern Warfare Remastered did last year that I really enjoy. It's easier to keep track of people and removes a lot of the verticality the latest entries has introduced, for better or worse. Call of Duty: WWII feels like a much-needed reset for the genre-defining series.

Call of Duty: WWII is most definitely a more than decent entry to the franchise. The return of boots-on-the-ground gameplay is certainly welcomed and it’s good to see Sledgehammer Games take a little risk and try out some new features.

It captures all the joys in multiplayer that we felt back in 2008 without completely losing everything that makes a modern COD so great.

Call of Duty World War II is a retread of places the franchise has been before in. If the multiplayer worked it'd score higher, but this is just a broken game and an awful experience right now.

Call Of Duty has made a commendable return to the franchise’s former roots in what could be considered the best entry this generation with Call Of Duty: WWII. Players are given an array of choice in the multiplayer and a solid single-player outing. The reformatted multiplayer creates something special that will hopefully carry on into future iterations. Much like the campaign, the Nazi Zombie mode introduces a much more cinematic experience that adds to the enjoyment. The release of Call Of Duty: WWII has solidified Call Of Duty as the go-to multiplayer game once again in a sea of new ideas and competition.

Call of Duty: WW2 is a perfectly serviceable game, but for something that’s supposed to be the grand return to the WW2 era it feels more like a publisher reaction to Battlefield 1 than a genuine interest in doing something new with the setting.

All in all I would say WWII is a pretty good addition to the CoD series, it’s not as good as Black Ops 3’s multiplayer but it makes up for it with one crazy fun Zombies map. I just pray this game doesn’t meet the same fate as previous games and it stays fair and fun until the next instalment.

Call of Duty WWII is an excellent return to form from a series that has jumped the shark. CoD in space was a ridiculous diversion that pulled focus away from the core of the franchise. Call of Duty WWII puts the attention squarely on the strength of the gameplay and the bravery of men who fought for the freedom of the world.

The same amusement park of warfare style game design Call of Duty is known for. While I am tentatively eager to see where the series takes some of the ideas it introduces, the execution of said ideas was underwhelming.

Call of Duty: WWII feels like the mass market play-it-safe product that it is rather than a sincere attempt to revitalize the franchise.

Faith in the Call of Duty franchise – Restored. I am very impressed with basically every element of the game (apart from a few minor gripes about framerate drops and spawn positioning). As someone that was expecting to strongly dislike this game, I am utterly relieved to say that I am very impressed with all game modes and look forward to losing hundreds of hours of productivity playing it. If you are new to the franchise this is a great place to start as there is a real return to form in WWII. Sledgehammer’s take on zombies is refreshing whilst staying true to the identity of the game mode, the campaign is compelling and visually spectacular, and the multiplayer is fast-paced boots on the ground fun.

If you're looking for a new shooter to put some hours into, Call of Duty: WWII is a great choice, but if you're looking for a memorable campaign there are better options elsewhere.

Call Of Duty: WW2, then, is in truth a bit of a mixed bag, but it’s survived thanks to the continued strength of the core multiplayer framework and the surprising spin on its Nazi Zombies offering which work hand-in-hand to balance out the dreadfully uninteresting campaign. Successfully revitalising historical-shooters much in the same way as EA’s Battlefield 1 did only a year prior, WW2’s purer gameplay is a welcome alternative to what came previously.
