After all the ruckus and the controversies, Star Wars: Battlefront 2 finally reveals itself for what it is: a great Star Wars experience. The new Campaign is definitely well written and thrilling (with some memorable dogfights in the space), and the multiplayer improves everything we already loved in the first Battlefront. There are still some issues with a progression system that relies a little bit too much on randomness, but the game is definitely better off without microtransactions.

Star Wars Battlefront II draw a line on the past of the licence. Complete overhaul of the space combat system, disappearance of the walker mode, addition of classes, big content at the launch, various objectives, addition of a solo campaign. Everything we could have expected in the first one is finally here. Only the cash shop and the feeling of shooting (little bit spineless) are a problem. Despite that we have in front of us a complete Star Wars game, especially with best SW space combats since X-Wing serie.

Star Wars Battlefront II offers a sizable improvement over the first game in almost every way. The campaign is short but well-paced and enjoyable, and multiplayer provides a robust offering with smooth and frenetic battles.

Battlefront II is everything the first should have been: it’s an immersive, fantastical experience with a heck of a lot of content to venture through. However, the game’s Star Card system is still problematic, and the inconsistencies seen in multiplayer, alongside the lack of in-game voice chat, pull it back from fully reaching its huge potential. Whilst the single player campaign is a let down in many aspects, it doesn't bring down the much improved multiplayer portion of the game.

So, does Star Wars Battlefront II fulfill the Star Wars fantasy? I believe it does, but it's a very Empire Strikes Back fantasy; it's not all lightsabers and Force-using. Sometimes it takes a blaster or two to get the job done or some fancy flying. It may require some frustrating moments of Dagoba-style training. At the end of the day, no matter who gets frozen in carbonite or loses a hand, you've got your squad to think about. Only together can you overcome the odds stacked against you.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is fantastic follow up to the 2015 title but is ultimately held back from reaching true greatness thanks to its demonic microtransactions.

Star Wars Battlefront II's progression system may indeed be piss poor and too loot box centered, but that doesn't stop it from being a mighty fine way to spend your time.

Star Wars Battlefront II features a lackluster campaign, but there's a great multiplayer game here that is unfortunately held back by its progression system and, in turn, balancing issues. Regardless, it's worth experiencing for its engaging multiplayer space battles alone.

I do really enjoy playing this, but when you look at some of the aspects that could make Battlefront 2 perfect, it falls short.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is a very strong case for doing your own research before buying. Going in, you must know that the unlocking system in-game is pretty rough and we’ll likely see microtransactions return as some point. On the other hand, the brand new campaign and multiplayer options in Star Wars Battlefront 2 are a lot of fun and personify what makes Star Wars great.

Above all else Battlefront II is extremely fun. The gameplay is balanced and exciting. It is everything we, as gamers, had hoped for out of Battlefront and is a logical successor to the Battlefront series from the early 2000s.

Just like in the first Battlefront game in 2015 it doesn’t disappoint when it comes to the graphical side of things. Naboo, looks stunning, Starkiller base from The Force Awakens look practically identical and when moving round the maps you get a sense of “I’ve seen this place before” or “this is the part in the film where…”. You can tell that a lot of effort has been put into making the levels really stand out and like the locations they are taken from.

Battlefront II is a great game that has been tainted by the dark side. Core gameplay is very good, graphics and sound design are superb. But the progression system is tied to microtransactions and broken.

Improved gameplay, breathtaking locales, an original campaign and tons of multiplayer maps across all Star Wars series. And loot boxes.

Star Wars Battlefront II stumbles out of the gate with its progression system. I hope it gets ironed out because the underlying multiplayer is extremely fun. The campaign is short and sweet, but a little too fan-servic-y for me. As it stands this is a solid sequel with some highly noticeable blemishes. I will continue to play because of my love for Star Wars, but I do hope it gets ironed out before players lose interest.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 has the potential to be an amazing game, however, it is unlikely we'll ever get to play the real game as it's hidden beneath microtransactions. In an ideal world, EA would remove the Star Card system completely and replace it with something that doesn't interfere with the gameplay. If you are on the fence, maybe wait a few weeks to see how EA deal with the progression system beforehand. That being said, even with Battlefront 2's flaws I'd still say it's worth playing.

Overall, Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017) is still a fun game thanks to more content than it had two years ago and an exciting single player campaign that is actually canon to the Star Wars universe.

Yes, Star Wars fans will leap at the chance to enter a galaxy far, far away – and even casual players will appreciate the quick accessibility of multiplayer matches. But those looking for a deeper, more nuanced and balanced online experience might need to look elsewhere if things don't improve further.

Star Wars Battlefront II is a good game wrapped in an odd upgrade system and a very volatile economy. It has a breadth of modes that play very well and can provide many memorable moments. The gameplay is solid, and the title gives players a better chance at playing with more powerful characters. However, the progression system feels unnecessarily stunted, and the grinding nature of buying characters and loot crates can be frustrating. At least the use of real money to purchase crates has been removed for the time being. There's a good game in here that evokes the desire to play "one more game," but players have to be fine with the progression and payment mechanics.
