While not the completely new game some were hoping for. Game Freak have added and refined more than I thought we would get out of a mid-gen release. The addition of new Pokemon, dimensions to explore and story segments make Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon the definitive way to experience Alola. If you haven't played Sun or Moon I would suggest picking up one of the Ultra titles instead. Even if you have, the refinements to the existing systems, the more streamlined story and the vast small changes will keep you engaged and wanting to progress through the colourful land of Alola for many hours.

For me, the returning Pokémon – like old friends at this point – and tweaks to the plot and Totem fights justified the return, but not without reservations, and not without being prepared to be taught how to catch a Pokémon for the millionth time.

Pokémon Ultrasun and Ultra Moon is an enhanced version of its predecessors and it keeps all of their quality. Unfortunately, there are few new and actually noteworthy features. Also, from a technical point of view, it still has some problems. Necrozma's story could have been managed much better: like this, it's almost a copy with a different ending of the one we saw in Sun and Moon.

Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon is only worth playing if you haven't already experienced the base game.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon offer a fresh journey through the wonderful region of Alola, though it may be too soon for some players to fully appreciate the revisit.

A successful re-telling with interesting extras, whose full potential unfolds only towards the end of the game.

Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon is the defenitive return to Alola. Much more content, new experiences and feelings that are going to be perfect for the fans of the Pokemon games.

Its great to be back in Alola! These enhanced versions wrap up everything in the seventh generation. While Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon suffer some issues with its narrative, the game itself feels complete and as fun as you may remember.

Bigger, better and refined, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are the definitive versions of Sun and Moon. Theres some déjà vu feeling with the story, but that doesn't neglect that these games offer tons of content, and that they serve as a great farewell for the series before jumping to the Switch.

After the minimal adjustments in the first 20 hours of the game you'll get a great second half in Pokemon Ultra. With over 400 Pokemons and some new challenges for veterans this game is a must-have for fans of the series.

You won't find much incentive to return to Alola if you enjoyed your original trip, but if you skipped Sun and Moon's 2016 release and want to play a new Pokémon game, this is your best bet

I can't say Pokémon Ultra Sun is a must-play for fans, but it won't be leaving my 3DS anytime soon.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are the great, wonderful entries into the Pokémon franchise that were released last year, but with more. Just to access that more, you'll need to play the entire game again. In the modern day, this sort of update could've, and probably should've, been released as a DLC update for owners of the original game, honestly. Nevertheless, if you've not played Pokémon Sun and Moon, you owe it to yourself to jump in with Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon.

There were a lot of strong points in this game, and they outweigh the bad. Mantine surfing, the Ultra Recon Squad, heck, even the new/updated trials! The game took Sun and Moon, which may be story-heavy, but empty in its postgame, and made it into something that can really be called "Ultra". It's certainly several steps up from Sun and Moon.

Even though a lot of content in Pokemon Ultrasun and Ultramoon has been recycled from the previous entries, there's still a lot of new things to see and new places to explore, and, more importantly, a great deal of fanservice that will delight long time aficionados of the franchise.

A must-buy for any Alola first timer, but not-so-much for those already being Pokémon League Champions.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon are very good third-version games. They expand the story alongside as well as the post-game, and barring some not-ideal motion controls and a slow intro, there's very little to complain about. It may be the same game as last year with a bunch of new stuff on top, but considering this is one of Pokémon's finest generations yet, I have zero problem with more of a good thing.

The Pokémon Company have officially announced that Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are the last mainline Pokémon games coming to Nintendo 3DS, so it’s fitting that they feel so fleshed out. While they’re far less ground-breaking than Pokémon Sun and Moon, they provide the definitive way of exploring Alola. If you’re hesitant about double dipping, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon might just have enough new content to get you hooked all over again.

Overall, from a gameplay perspective this version of Alola is vastly superior to its predecessor. The story is weaker due to how the changed the climax of the game, important character moments don’t happen and it’s a real shame. The story is still very good for a Pokemon title and I’m happy I got to experience it.
