DOOM is a technological marvel to behold on the Switch, and the fact that id Software got it working at all seems like a miracle. But the magic comes with some heavy concessions, making DOOM on Nintendo's handheld a more difficult recommendation for Switch players than any other platform.

If the Switch is your main console, and you somehow missed out on id Software's fantastic throwback to a bygone era of First Person Shooters, then I wholeheartedly recommend DOOM on the Switch.

DOOM suffers some undeniable downgrades in graphical fidelity on Switch, which anyone could've predicted. It's when these downgrades effect enjoyment of the game, however, that one starts to wonder if it was all worth it.

Doom on Switch is a triumph of the human spirit. It is just one more feather in Nintendo's cap as third party developers are flocking to the Switch. Panic Button deserves extremely high praise for this port. It may not be perfect, but Doom on Switch offers players a new way to play one of the finest shooters to come out in recent history.

DOOM on the Switch is a great package. The fact that you can take this game with you wherever you go and play this game at any time is pretty amazing considering this was one of the most graphically intense games of 2016.

Despite the technical limitations by the Nintendo Switch hardware, you will experience all the brutality and incredible action in this version of DOOM which is a good opportunity for a new audience.

This is a most faithful version of the 2016 game of the year contender and something of a technical marvel.

Doom on Switch is an amazing port that looks incredibly great in a portable mode, but really outdated if you play it in home console mode on a large TV. Nevertheless, it's still Doom with meaty and fun gameplay. If you prefer a portable gaming or want to be able to play Doom on the road, you can safely buy this version of the game. In other cases it's better to buy it on PC, PS4 or Xbox One.

DOOM for the Nintendo Switch is a solid FPS that doesn't compromise the core gameplay during the transition. Both the campaign and online multiplayer are a blast to play, however, the absence of Snap Map doesn't go unnoticed. The game's performance is generally solid, even if it does have the occasional frame rate dip and texture issues.

On the whole, I found DOOM quite difficult game to score. It’s a port that looks completely and utterly underwhelming on the TV and yet probably stands as the best first-person shooter out there that can be played natively and conveniently so well on the go. Some will either love or hate the Metroid Prime-style platforming and losing track on where to go next, but one thing’s for sure is that the game itself stays very faithful to the series and makes old-school first-person shooter feel predominantly new and fresh again. Even cranking up the difficulty feels extremely rewarding when you finally learn to successfully ride the angry waves of its kinetic flow. Bag all that up with tons of upgrades, stacks full of secrets, easter eggs, toys, and the tricky yet hopelessly addictive rune trial challenges and you have an immersive shooter that you can rock out to whilst sat on a rooftop.

Brutal, fast paced and fun, Doom pays homage to classic FPS. Nintendo Switch version, at 30 FPS (unstable), is not as spectacular as the original released last year, but remains fresh and it´s unique in its genre.

While the classics can never be topped, DOOM gives us a solid ultraviolent shooter for the modern age. The PC and Xbox One version was already great, and the Nintendo Switch port now brings the Japanese console closer to a mature audience.

Blasting your way through hell on the go is still an experience we can’t quite get over. With FPS games largely being a bit rubbish on portable systems, playing DOOM in all its glory on the train or during a flight has been a bit of a revelation.

Doom for Nintendo Switch is a straightforward port that runs well and looks pretty good. Which ultimately, is everything it needed to be. Even though it's a little fuzzy, smashing through a legion of demons with a fun set of weapons and upgrades feels great, and especially when you throw in arcade mode and the much-improved multiplayer arena battles, this is the best mature-themed shooter you can currently get on the Switch.

It's not in all its glory, but it's still many steps ahead of other console ports, and a great addition to the Nintendo line-up ahead of the crucial holiday period.

Almost everything I wanted out of the port, but it is only worth picking up if you plan on playing handheld only.

Doom in portable version is an experience to try at least once and to enjoy completely, despite some graphic limits and controls in need of a careful calibration.

Objectively, this is the worst version of Doom, but that doesn't really matter because it is the best version on the Nintendo Switch.

Doom on the Switch is impressive. It's pretty much the same game it was over a year ago, and that is not a bad sign. It obviously isn't perfect and won't be everyone's cup of tea. Some may be bothered by the technical hiccups, while others will rejoice in the newly awakened third-party support that has brought them one of the better FPS experiences in the past two years.
