If Capcom wanted to use this re-release as a way to drum-up interest in a new Devil May Cry game then I feel they've gone about it the wrong way, as there's nothing here that's going to expand the series' player base. But, for those who simply want to play the games and rekindle memories of times gone by, the Devil May Cry HD Collection may just suffice.

Devil May Cry HD Collection is recommended for those who have never played before. It's a great resource for watching the progress of the video game world. But there is no innovation for those who played this video game before.

It always feels great to be able to play enhanced versions of good old titles on new consoles; but in Devil May Cry case, there's not enough to get excited about, as visuals are dated and old issues are still there. If you are not a fan of the series, you should probably ignore this one.

In the end, the Devil May Cry HD Collection is a lazy port of a set of lazy ports from six years ago, but it is technically the best way to play two fantastic games – and also Devil May Cry 2.

Out of the three games in this collection, Devil May Cry 3 is the only one to stand up to the test of time.

The Devil May Cry HD Collection on PS4 may essentially be a straight port of the PS3 version that released in 2012, but ultimately, that doesn't detract from the overall experience. The original Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 3 still stand strong, and while the second game is easily the weakest of the three, there's still some enjoyment to be had at the very least. If you've already played through the collection on PS3 then the value of this port is undoubtedly diminished, but for everyone else - newcomers included - this is a fine way to get acquainted with Dante.

Devil May Cry HD Collection is worth getting if you have never played the games before as they all offer frantic and enjoyable gameplay rarely seen in this generation. It will also give you some experience until Devil May Cry 5 gets released in the near future as speculated. That said, this HD Collection seems pretty redundant if you already played it on PS3 and Xbox 360. Not to mention visually the game still looks very outdated by modern day gaming standards…

This is very much Devil May Cry 1, 2, and 3, with pretty much all the good and bad that came with the original titles.

Another bad porting of a mediocre collection, that definitely doesn't stand the test of time. It's pretty pricey as well, and the only title worth of your money is probably Dante's Awakening. It could – and should – have been better.

Devil May Cry HD Collection is one of the most lackadaisical remasters that I've ever played – featuring little improvements on the same collection that released for older consoles back in 2012. That being said, the sheer strength of the games included (Devil May Cry 2 notwithstanding) and the modest asking price still make it a more than viable way to experience these games before an inevitable sequel.

Devil May Cry HD Collection brings to the current generation consoles the progenitor of an entire genre and one of the best games ever created. The collection is recommended for PS4 owners who have never played any games of one of Capcom's most important series before.

Devil May Cry HD Collection includes a high quality trilogy, but even if the games are very good, this remastering doesn't do them justice. Except for better resolution and action at 60fps, it brings nothing really new. Although technically outdated, its gameplay and story are still fun and entertaining.

The Devil May Cry HD could deliver better performance and an acceptable graphics level rather than transferring the same version of previous generation devices to existing platforms with little change except for 1080p resolution and 60 frames, making collection unworthy experience for those who have already played The game before, but the newcomers will undoubtedly face many problems with the collection within graphics or camera or the level of enemies except the third part

These games are classics, and for the most part they still hold up today.

With the outright lazy porting treatment and entirely token presence of DMC 2, it’s difficult to recommend the Devil May Cry HD Collection, especially at its current price. If you have a console from the previous generation, you can find the exact same experience at 720p for significantly cheaper. As for the games themselves, though, they still hold up for the most part, so if you’ve never played them before and are a fan of the hack and slash genre, you owe it to yourself to play the first and third. Just wait for a price drop first if you don’t have any other way to play them.

When factoring in on whether or not I can recommend this game to newcomers to the series, I honestly do not think I can; Devil May Cry HD Collection‘s re-release poorly-made compilation fails to show what made the franchise as popular as it is, while old fans of the series will be disappointed to see this game is nothing more than a rehash, and obviously, if you did not like the series already, then there is a high probability that this compilation will not change your mind.

For those itching to revisit these classics, then look no further. It’d be best to temper your expectations, however, if you were looking for a meatier collection with in-depth interviews and behind-the-scenes videos. Otherwise, prepare to grit your teeth and scream at your TV screen as you try and slay demons and get them “Stylish” combos. Now that this collection is available on current generation console, you can experience every entry this franchise and prepare yourself when Capcom finally announces the long-awaited Devil May Cry 5.
