An impressively unique stealth adventure which mixes a gothic horror atmosphere with a touching tale of two siblings surviving against the odds.

If you are looking for a whole new experience from what you already had in this generation, look no more, A Plague Tale: Innocence is what you want. A Plague Tale is not open world, does not offer multiplayer experience, and there is no big budget behind it. Instead it offers a linear stealth puzzle gameplay with a deep story and solid narrative, and that's exactly what we need every once in while. To seat behind our gaming device, disconnect from the whole world and just enjoy a great video game like the good old times.

Although A Plague Tale: Innocence features spectacular artwork and excellent characters, they can't make up for the boring, predictable gameplay.

A Plague Tale: Innocence is a poignant tale about the resilience of the human spirit, the bond between a brother and sister, and how people are united in the face of tragedy. It is shockingly grim but also incredibly moving, and worth a playthrough for the story alone. If narrative-heavy games are your thing, you should definitely check this one out. If you’re hoping for a challenging and fast-paced action game, however, you may be disappointed.

A Plague Tale: Innocence is a genuine surprise in terms of story depth and beauty. The game mechanics drive the plot further, giving us a truly terrifying look at siblings who are in way over their head. I can imagine that some will find the constant escort and stealth tedious over time, but I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. I would consider A Plague Tale an earlier contender for surprise hit of the year. Don't miss out on this game!

A Plague Tale: Innocence is a good game, which unfortunately looses steam in its final chapters, preventing it from concluding as a great one. Although it has a very promising and pleasant first half, it ends up stretching itself unnecessarily, delivering samey gameplay sections without much inspiration through it's middle, and chapters where the story becomes much less interesting towards the end. These factors take away some of the brilliance of what is still an impressive work of world-building and narrative that Asobo Studio introduced in the early hours of this adventure.

A Plague Tale: Innocence is a grim, gripping, and fantastic adventure. The solid stealth gameplay offers little new, but the unique setting, affecting characters, excellent dialogue, and oppressive atmosphere more than redress that linearity. Add to this a lean design, an emotive score, and a commitment to narrative focus, and A Plague Tale deserves to be heralded as one of 2019's very best adventures.

Despite a troublesome companion that can sometimes bog this stealth title down, A Plague Tale: Innocence is still a very interesting, unique, and haunting tale. It's one that will likely get overlooked due to not being an AAA game but it's one that is worth giving the time of day when it's hitting the right notes.

By the end of A Plague Tale, its surviving heroes have earned their rest. It's hard to say goodbye to them, though, the same way it's hard to no longer spend time with the characters of a great book or TV show. A bittersweet post-credits sting hints at what might await the de Runes in the future; hopefully that's a story that players will be able to explore one day.

A Plague Tale: Innocence has become a truly captivating adventure, the magnitude of which hardly anyone expected. Special praise goes to the gripping and emotional story, which is carried and supported by an almost flawless technical framework. Only the gameplay gets a bit monotonous in the long run, even if you notice that the developers really tried hard to add variety to the title. For players who focus more on the story experience than on the gameplay itself, this title is an absolute must buy! But everyone else should at least take a look and give it a chance - it's worth it!
