If it wasn’t for the game breaking bug that can make the player repeat dozens of hours, the scoring would be very different from what you will see at the end of the review. It is however something that we cannot ignore.

The story is good, most of the time the gameplay is fun, but the constant loss of control over things can be grating.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 can be recommended to all creative individuals who like to build or care for the farm. Despite the uncomfortable backlogs, such as the more delicate building or the boring arcades on the island, it is a great game.

Dragon Quest Builders II is a game that provides the tools for one to craft some fascinating and detailed fantasy creations. The story is what drew me in, however. Dragon Quest Builders II is ultimately a game about fate and whether we are bound to our natures that hearkens to lore from the early Dragon Quest stories. Although rife with annoyances, the overall experience is worth it.

An esoteric little gem, Dragon Quest Builders 2 is an enormously enjoyable RPG-building sandbox hybrid that deserves time and attention.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a sequel in every level : wider, deeper but also way more talkative than the original, the game sticks to the original formula, adding a new multiplayer mode and a first person view. Needless to say, every fan of the Dragon Quest franchise will be pleased by this vast spin-off, but Square Enix should have tried a tiny bit more to make it appealing to all the other players.

A good concept, recommended itself from the 1st game, is largely broken on a failed implementation in Dragon Quest Builders 2: a mixture of an jRPG and a sandbox with an overweight in the direction of the jRPG will not suit everyone's taste. Bad episodes with dull artificial intelligence, an obsessive wall of text and empty world are disappointing. But the process of construction and defence of the city is really entertaining. In DQB3 we would like to see more focus on the variability of the walkthrough, deep exploration and development of creative potential of the series, then it would be the perfect mix for lovers of Minecraft like building games with a plot.

Still, though, I had a really good time traveling through the world that has been brought to life within Dragon Quest Builders 2. If you're looking for a good game that has plenty of content to keep you logging in every day, then this is one title you'll want to check out.

Overall, Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a good game but not a great one.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a marked improvement on its predecessor. Although the combat is still underwhelming, the rest of the package is sharp, charming, and loaded with stuff to build, crops to farm, and settlements to manage.

While an extremely guided and structured experience, Dragon Quest Builders 2 maintains enough of the charm of the franchise to be worth a look for fans. Players accustomed to free-play modes in other building sims will chafe at the story mode, but patient players that don't mind a simple battle system and chatty NPCs will still find plenty of content here to enjoy.

In a perfect world, [the Nintendo Switch] release would have been tuned for a more stable frame rate and power consumption. Hopefully the frame rate can be addressed in future patches because Dragon Quest Builders 2 on Switch is the perfect game for the system but in a not so perfect port.

It's easy for me to say Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a good game because it'd be a lie for me to say otherwise. The groundwork laid by the first title is still sound, but it just didn't grab me the same way its predecessor did. That doesn't mean I'm going to stop playing anytime soon -- I still have my home island to complete -- but it does mean it's not going to get my undivided attention for weeks-on-end like the first game did.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a great time for kids. Adults might be slightly bored by the stale combat, but will be impressed with the amazing building-mechanics. The story is a tad long though, but that's understandable seeing how this is still a JRPG.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a great and fun sequel to the first release. This game can keep you entertained for hours by presenting a lovely story, superb construction mechanics and fun and addictive gameplay. However, Square Enix's new role-playing game is not without flaws and could have done better in many cases. If the first version attracts you, then the second version can surely keep you entertained for hours.

A little minecraft and a pinch of Harvest Moon paired with action RPG elements make Dragon Quest Builders 2 a fun game with a few smaller corners and edges. If you can get along with the mass of text and the rather simple story, you get a really fun game that can captivate for hours.

What we have here is an excellent title with truly addictive mechanics and some fun exploration. It’s just missing that “shock to the system” quality that the original had for me. If you’re new to this sub-franchise, I can guarantee you’ll have a great time with this game. For returning players, as long as you’re aware that this game is more of the same at its core, there’s still plenty of fun to be had here.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is a methodical adventure with a glacial pace that would have utterly destroyed a less well-crafted game. In this case, however, the strength of the visual design and the excellent writing is more than enough to gloss over those flaws.
