Overall, the enjoyable gameplay and reliably fun game modes are what make NBA 2K20 great. However, I still find myself waiting for 2K to create a new and exciting game mode in the future that will essentially make it the perfect game.

The series has not taken very significant steps during the recent years and each new title brings small improvements in the gameplay compared to last year. And this year NBA2K20 is for the most part an excellent basketball simulator.

2K20 is hands down the best way to play basketball on the Switch right now and should be picked up by any fans of the sport.

NBA 2K20 feels like the smallest leap that the series has made in years, even if the core gameplay still remains enjoyable.

The developers clearly went too far with microtransactions - without them playing is very uncomfortable. NBA 2K20 gives the impression of a free-to-play game with different currencies and requiring a constant infusion of real cash. The final nail in the coffin hammered the constant problems caused by the connection to the server, which you can't play the game or losing the progress. It's just trash.

Splendid recreation of basketball with game-changing, innovative evolution cards – but it can't escape the bad taste the microtransactions leave.

NBA 2K20 continues to deliver excellent on-court action with unmatched presentation and mode variety. However, the series' continued reliance on microtransactions is still a glaring issue.

This new NBA 2K iteration isn't a new step forward for the the franchise. Gameplay is still good and demanding, MyCareer well-written, but there's not much that's feeling new and memorable.

And yet year after year 2K, despite intense fan protest online, turn the dial up and try to squeeze everyone just a little bit more. Clearly there are millions of fans who either don’t care, or are at least willing to suffer through it all, and it’s for these players that 2K is happy to continue building their entire game around the central conceits of microtransactions and advertising.

Apart from the grossly blatant grab at player’s wallets, NBA 2K20 remains as an institution for not just basketball but for sports games.

From a gameplay perspective, there's no denying that NBA 2K20 reigns supreme as the best basketball game you'll want to play this year. Sadly, 2K Games seems to be expanding its microtransaction plague throughout the experience to a point that it feels oppressive. Still if you're able to wade through the muck and deal with the advertisements and pay-to-win modes, you won't be disappointed by the stellar updates and excellent presentation you've come to expect.

Hiding the nasty microtransactions and adding some welcome new additions has lead to the best game of ball of this generation. It isn’t perfect, but it isn’t the monetary predator it has been for the last few years.

NBA 2K20 has made it again. The title of 2K Games comes with enough new features for veterans to feel evolution and the simplicity necessary to catch the newbies. Thus, the title par excellence of basketball stands, one more year, as one of the most complete sports games on the market.

NBA 2K20 can be easily recommended to basketball fans. If you are not familiar with the franchise, still the gameplay can be well with you. The myCareer section also shows that storytelling can be successful in sports. However, the publisher's lucrative policies of pushing the audience to pay real money for in-game virtual currency was a misconception that gamers have objected to. Although this year's dose has dropped slightly (only in the myCareer section), its footprint in the most important online game mode, myTeam, can be seen as an insult to the audience.

MyTeam and MyPlayer have never been better, and the changes to the dribbling and foot planting has caused offense to be fun while not being mindless like the year of the blow by was. If we are officially though the weeds as far as all the issues go, the game can stand on its own as one of the best in the series; if not we are in for a long year.

NBA 2K20 remains a solid basketball title and something that fans of the sport are bound to enjoy. But the game seems designed to pressure players into pumping extra money so they don't have to spend an ungodly amount of time grinding, and that dampens the arena atmosphere.

NBA 2K20 is pure magic on the playground. The new physical model, the impact of the new defensive system and the fine tuning of the gameplay is something valuable which give to basketball lovers endless possibilities. On the other side, the new GM mode is very disappointing and 2K business model for MyTeam is still questionable. The good news is that microtransations are quite useless in MyCareer mode, which thanks to King James work shines again to its original beauty.
