SaGa Scarlet Grace Ambitions Reviews
Unconventional and risk-taking, Scarlet Grace houses a great battle system and interesting world, but its flaws get in the way
SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions blends the challenge of olden JRPG days with the aesthetic refinement of modern gaming to create a tantilizing final product. Difficulty waivers back and forth in odd ways, but the narrative and combat keep everything feeling engaging and enjoyable.
SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions is a SaGa game through and through. Unfortunately, that means it’s not for everyone.
What SaGa Scarlet Grace Ambitions lacks in its plot, it more than makes up for in its difficult and complex battle system. Make no mistake, this is a hardcore RPG. You'll be retrying battles over and over just to barely scrape by, and while it can be too difficult at times, the combat system is still a blast the whole way through.
At times brutally difficult, and others frustratingly random, SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions takes some big risks to ensure it's highly satisfying and incredibly rewarding to play through.
Akitoshi Kawazu and Square Enix have crafted one of the most innovative RPGs in years, and players owe it to themselves to check it out.
For the most part, SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions is going to appeal to the RPG fan at heart. It has some weird mechanics, a story that takes a while to get going and feels rather dated. This isn't to say you shouldn't experience it, as much as you should know what you're getting into.
We enjoyed our time with SaGa Scarlet Grace Ambitions, but we think Romancing SaGa 3 is a much better title overall and we recommend newcomers to begin with that one. Nonetheless, if you're looking for a difficult and somewhat unique JRPG, you can't go wrong with this one.

When all is said and done, SaGa: Scarlet Grace: Ambitions proves why the franchise is often overlooked in favor of its more familiar RPG cousins.
While it is nice to see a brand new SaGa game after the franchise laid dormant for years, it is still struggling to find common ground and the experimental nature of the gameplay means this is not meant for everyone.
Worthy of its name, SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions is another good chapter in an historic franchise, with good story and a fun and challenging combat system. Despite its clear technical limitations, it still is an experience RPG fans should play.

What may be surprising to both new and old fans alike is just how much time is spent in combat. All of the terrific dialogue and interactions between characters is gated behind hours of complex combat mechanics and some difficult battles. The time commitment is definitely worth it, but just make sure you're ready for the trademark Kawazu punishment that you'll inevitably experience.
If you're looking for an unconventional and rewarding RPG then SaGa: Scarlet Grace - Ambitions is a must-play.
The graphic quality is no better than average, but the sound design was good enough to remind you that you’re enjoying the SaGa series and its unique style of gameplay. As one of the original JRPGs, there are plenty of unique scenarios which include several sub-events to explore. The battle difficulty was a little harder than expected and its flow of action seems to be inconsistent, but there are more positives than bad which completes the puzzle to make it become a true SaGa universe.

In SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions, a fantastic match makes a title that may not seem like it has much to offer, becomes a magnificent experience that one who likes a good tactical system cannot miss.

SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions is an ambitious game that hides a lot of content beneath its surface whilst offering one of the best combat systems and strongest replay values for an RPG.
SaGa Scarlet Grace Ambitions is a disappointing RPG that falls short because of its boring story, mediocre visuals, and nerfed world. The combat and music are excellent, but it’s not enough to make Ambitions worth recommending.
Overall, I had a great time playing through Scarlet Grace, though it does have its flaws. The worldbuilding was some of the best I’ve ever seen in a video game, but the story suffered as a result.
SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions may not be a game for everyone but for those willing to not judge the game on its presentation will find a rich world with a unique gameplay experience unlike any other. This is a great starting place for new SaGa fans and one of the best yet for long time fans.
