HYPERCHARGE: Unboxed Reviews
Hypercharge: Unboxed doesn't revolutionize the shooter market or offer anything new, but what it does provide is a highly polished, chaotic, and lovingly crafted experience for players who have an itch for retro games and addictive combat loops. There's certainly an argument to be made that this version is coming a little too late into its life cycle, but if Hypercharge: Unboxed can find a consistent and renewed audience with this long-awaited release on Xbox consoles, then perhaps the future is indeed bright for this zany, old school shooter.
Hypercharge Unboxed is finely-tuned with a diverse amount of content for a small-scale game.
If you consider the fairly sparse selection of FPS titles on the Switch, Hypercharge: Unboxed is a genuinely tempting prospect, boasting solid gameplay that is an absolute blast with friends. There are a few issues with the gameplay that may need addressing with patches, and as a whole the game feels like a bit of a walk in the park for the most part, but otherwise it's an impressive, unique title that you'd do well to check out.
Hypercharge: Unboxed is an excellent multiplayer shooter. It plays extremely well, runs smoothly, and offers plenty of fun and challenge for groups of friends.
Hypercharge: Unboxed delivers on its promise of plastic-bashing toy warfare. However, for more mature gamers and fans of the genre, it doesn't go deep enough, playing it safe with serviceable albeit rather basic gameplay.
I know I have been critical of the developer in the past, and while I, myself didn’t really vibe with their marketing techniques; at the end of the day developer Digital Cybercherries’ freshman offering is a joy to play with others. It can be rather difficult alone due to having to defend multiple towers, but with others, online or split-screen I cannot deny this is a fun game. Its not going to set the world on fire, but for a group of buddies on a weekend; this one will definitely make you smile.
A little rough around the edges with traversal but there is so much charm and fun with this game that I can easily overlook the negatives. Each level is like a trip down memory lane and reminds me of when I had epic battles that left a complete mess of my bedroom, living room and more. With lots of replayability and fun game play, Hypercharged: Unboxed will be one of those surprise hits for me of the year. A game I didn't even know existed that ended up being one of my favorites of the year.
Hypercharge: Unboxed is a fun and unique addition to the small library of shooters already on the Nintendo Switch. Digital Cybercherries' debut title on the platform offers fun and addictive wave-based shooter gameplay for all ages. With the game's cute art style and smooth performance, it is hard to go wrong with picking up a content-filled game like this. Especially one that has a lower than usual price-tag of $19.99.
Hypercharge: Unboxed is a game that is going to fall under its own greatness. The gameplay is solid and a lot of fun, but there is little left for the game once you have unlocked everything except to play for the sake of it. A lack of DLC plans from the developer/publisher means this great game is going to die under the weight of its own promise.
Hypercharge's fun conceit and impressive suite of content earns appreciation given Digital Cybercherries' modest means, but its mediocre mechanics make other toys more tempting to play.
Wrapped in nostalgic packaging, Hypercharge: Unboxed is a casual and accessible shooter that would have benefited from some added depth to its mechanics.
A fun action shooter that brings toys to life
HYPERCHARGE: Unboxed offers a fun concept and solid execution in certain areas, particularly in its cooperative gameplay and creative map design. However, it lacks depth in its core mechanics, suffers from noticeable repetition, and doesn't feature any class system; all characters play the same, which limits variety and replayability. It's not a bad game, but it also doesn't do enough to clearly set itself apart from similar titles. It's best suited for light, casual sessions with friends, but won't satisfy players looking for a rich and evolving experience.

HYPERCHARGE: Unboxed looks great, has local and online cross-play multiplayer, and makes you feel like a kid. This is a must-play title!
Actually, it is one I look forward to revisiting as time goes on. It is extremely promising, but it isn't quite there yet. However, if you have a group of friends you can reliably play with and you're willing to trudge through the rough spots, there is certainly plenty of content to enjoy here. It also happens to somehow be one of the most visually impressive games I've played on Switch.
Even though there are plenty of online multiplayer games out there, Hypercharge Unboxed is a solid enough offering to be worth playing. The fact that you play as toys is something that the whole family can enjoy, too.
A nostalgic toybox shooter with heart, polish, and some rough edges, HYPERCHARGE is what happens when devs say “what if we built a game around the coolest part of your childhood?” and actually follow through. It’s not perfect—but it’s pure fun.
HYPERCHARGE: Unboxed has a lot of content, even though it has a few small problems, like defense mechanics that aren't very complex and no story mode. The multiplayer modes are the most fun, and the fact that you can play both locally and online means that you'll always have someone to fight. For people who loved toys as kids in the 1980s or 1990s, this game was made just for them.
Hypercharge: Unboxed is an enjoyable experience that blends childhood nostalgia with innovation in gameplay. It offers multiple game modes with a distinctive and unique artistic direction, supported by generally stable technical performance, making it a competitive shooter suitable for players of all ages.

Hypercharge: Unboxed brings loads of nostalgia, charm and heart and packs it into a humorous shooter. There is an incredible amount to discover in all the maps and even the character selection makes you smile at first. Unfortunately, the campaign can't quite keep up with this over time, but thanks to the co-op mode and the fun multiplayer options, you should still be entertained for a good while.
