When all is said and done, Microsoft Flight Simulator in its current state reminds me a lot of Sea of Thieves shortly after launch. The game has a lot of promise and a lot of potential, but it is marred by a number of issues that keep it from really shining. Once the issues have been worked out in six months or a year from now, I fully expect Microsoft Flight Simulator to be a must-have title. Right now, unless you are a hardcore flight sim fanatic, I would pass on buying the premium version and just stick to playing the basic version that's included with GamePass.
The Microsoft Flight Simulator breathes new life into the genre thanks to ultra realistic graphics, no question. But does the simulator offer an incentive for this target group in the long run? When you have flown through New York, photographed your not very precisely recreated home town and explored your last vacation destination from above again? For simulation enthusiasts, on the other hand, the game offers everything you can dream of. Just the possibility of being able to turn every wheel in the multitude of cockpits is a great attraction. Those who are willing to get behind the wheel and learn will be delighted with a detailed replica of reality. Also the huge amount of supported joysticks, pedals and gamepads shows that especially purists can have fun with it. And this is exactly what Microsoft wants to satisfy in the long run.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is one of the oldest PC game series, a particularly beloved franchise endorsed by an audience of simulation and aviation enthusiasts. The 2020 edition, brought to life by developer Asobo Studio in conjunction with Microsoft, is sure to attract a new generation and fan base to the fold. It is a game that can be recommended both to fans of simulation, and to those who, like myself, had the closest thing to simulation with Elite: Dangerous Putting together, on the one hand, the obvious inclusion of enhanced images, the almost magical addition of a completely recreated and explorable Earth, built and populated with images from Microsoft's Bing satellite and Azure cloud computing service, and on the other, some deep mechanics and a well-crafted sense of realism elevate the series to new heights.
