Croixleur Sigma can be entertaining when you're gunning for a high score or if you're in the mood for some relentless action, but there just isn't enough reason to keep coming back once you've sampled each mode and discovered a few favourite weapons. It's an arcade hack and slasher with a colourful, inviting exterior, but much like a bag of Haribo, it's best enjoyed in short bursts – stay too long and you'll soon get sick.

Croixleur Sigma seems to run out of steam right when you start to get the hang of the gameplay. The presentation is top notch, but there's not much below the surface.

I wish there was more detail to that side of it, but games are ultimately about having fun and doing something that presents intriguing obstacles, entertaining play, and worthwhile distractions – and, all things considered, Croixleur Sigma meets those requirements more often than not.

You'd think a game with superfluous storytelling, repetitive gameplay, and relatively shallow hack-and-slash mechanics would struggle to coalesce into something decent, but this anime action title manages to do just that.

Depth isn't normally the genre's strong suit but that said, some form of story - one not completely devoid of personality or entirely too reliant on the cheap tricks showcased here - surely isn't too much to ask for. For all Croixleur Sigma can be quite challenging - particularly towards its Story Mode's end or within Challenge Mode - no real skill is needed to succeed, and it's lack of variety and intrigue make this feel like a wasted journey west.

The different modes don't add much and the mystique of the game wears off in the first ten or twenty minutes, afterwards its coat of paint peels away and you're left with a milquetoast experience that leaves you wanting for far more than is present.

Croixleur Sigma will offer players a fun experience for a short while. The content in here is overall good and entertaining while it lasts, offering a fun and entertaining arcade experience. But due to a lack of actual challenge or changing objectives throughout the game, it will barely last three hours in the eye of the average gamer. There are some entertaining modes for enthusiasts of the genre, but they will not save the game from the content drought, no matter how fun the actual content therein is. It is a title worth getting if you can accept that it will not last long. However, if you're looking for more bang for your buck, there are far better titles out there.

Souvenir Circ.'s Croixleur Sigma offers a blazing fast hack-and-slash game play style that offers just enough complexity to suck you into its colourful world. While its appeal might be limited, it's still good fun in short sessions - just make sure you've got a good controller handy!

Supporting a good, albeit simple narrative between the four protagonists, Croixleur Sigma provides a solid, fast-paced, three dimensional roguelike brawler experience. It sits on the right side of challenging, has a vibrant art style, and has plenty of content, making it a superb title to keep sitting on the PlayStation 4 for quick bouts of action.

This bite-sized brawler delivers addictive time attack gameplay and satisfying combat for an appropriate price. Though you'll want to engage in short doses to make the most of its limited enemy types, Croixleur Sigma is perfect for pick-up-and-play action and delivers significantly superior value for money than its predecessor.
