“Little Hope” delivers, once again, on the promise of an interactive campy horror movie. This second entry in the “Dark Pictures Anthology” appears more confident in the concept than “Man of Medan” one year ago was, featuring a more complex background story, deeper characters and memorable monsters. For the budget price, you get an interactive horror movie that is best enjoyed online with a friend but can also be played locally with up to five friends. It won’t stain your couch with its scares, but its five-hour ghost story is nonetheless one of the best horror games of 2020 so far.

In The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope, Supermassive Games refines its tech and aesthetic but stumbles on storytelling.
With The Dark Pictures Anthology, it is quite obvious and explicit that Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games is attempting to muck about with as wide a spread of horror tropes as possible. It’s certainly an advantage for the ambitious project — there are countless horror cliches and gimmicks stuck in our collective minds. But in the midst of my first playthrough of Little Hope, the sophomore entry of The Dark Pictures, I questioned whether or not these tropes were worth having any affection over.
Little Hope moves on the same familiar paths as its predecessor, without being original in anything particularly.

Little Hope makes the direction of The Dark Pictures anthology clear, but it makes up for its evident formula with an interestingly convoluted story and increasingly nuanced branching paths.
The Dark Pictures: Little Hope offers proven scary food, as you are used to from Supermassive Games. Alone or with friends, you have the opportunity to influence the course of history and become master of life and death of your protégés. All in all, The Dark Pictures: Little Hope is good material for a scary evening with a thrilling story, which also has a very unexpected twist at the end.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope is a notable improvement over Man of Medan, thanks to its vastly superior plot that manages to keep you hooked and interested in the characters as you try to keep them alive.
Apart from the horrendous ending, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope is great fun. The couch co-op movie night mode returns and gives players a reason to play the game with friends and the game's setting is chilling in all the right ways. I cannot wait to see where the studio goes with next year's House of Ashes.
Little Hope presents us a horror story about witches and demons with a good plot that will love the lovers of the slasher genre and games with QTE. However, it sins of being too linear and having very little playability.

It’s a clear improvement over Man of Medan in terms of story approach, and while many will say that Until Dawn reigns supreme, Little Hope isn’t too far off from Until Dawn. If anything, they’re pretty even in my mind. Different where they need to be, but both enjoyable as hell.
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope aims to keep you stuck in front of the screen for about four hours, inviting you to play multiple times if you want to witness each different outcome of the script.

Look, it’s certainly very possible to spend an enjoyable evening playing Little Hope. But you have to calibrate your expectations towards B-movie, janky schlock-fest. If you go in wanting to have a spooky time that actually freaks your nut, I fear you’ll be disappointed.
Little Hope doesn't deliver the tightly written, well-paced scares of Until Dawn, but it's a much better, more focused experience than Man of Medan. If you can overlook so ridiculous writing and a few technical shortcomings, it's a spooky adventure that's work a look.

The Dark Pictures: Little Hope is just a frustratingly dull horror game. The characters are unlikable, the story is poorly strung together, it feels dated, and much more. I have very few positive things to say about it. Little Hope isn’t a game I want to dislike because I wanted a good horror game for October but it failed to deliver.
All The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope wants to be is the popcorn flick of the horror genre. And despite an ending that robs some merit from the experience and intruding load screens, the game achieves that. An interesting cast of characters lends weight and impact to your decisions while the story itself intrigues and surprises. Perfect for an unsettling night in? You got that right.
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope has really improved compared to the last installment in the series, but it becomes repetitive so soon. The technical issues in Man of Medan don't exist in Little Hope and it makes QTE sequences much more enjoyable. The graphics are so great and the story itself is engaging. I think despite of its problems, Little Hope is one of the best horror titles of this year that any horror fan should try.

Overall, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope on Xbox One X is a fantastic improvement on Man of Medan, although it still falls somewhat short of the utterly amazing Until Dawn.
Man of Medan was a mostly mediocre start to The Dark Pictures Anthology as it focused less on the supernatural and more on loosely connected events with some chemistry. It had a lot of flaws and just didn't have the same impact as Until Dawn but Little Hope is a step in the right direction. Offering a complex and layered story with scares and hidden details required to get the full picture of this tragic story.
The Dark Pictures: Little Hope is something akin to a good rollercoaster ride you can spend an evening or a two with. Sadly, there is not a lot of replayability, due to only one ending, albeit a quite unexpected one.
