I clearly recognized playing my first "PS5 only" game here: Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart impressed me technically but not completely regarding its gameplay. There's a lot to customize your experience with the different weapons but the game is also quite easy and the bosses could not really impress me. I enjoyed the adventure very much though especially with the new main character.

Ratchet & Clank: A Dimension Apart is a funny action-adventure game in which you'll control both Ratchet and River in a multitude of shootouts and platform challenges. A game made for both children and adults alike to enjoy, where the scenarios, although small, have an intelligent and entertaining approach, the characters are very well designed and the color palette is spectacular. The worst point is its sound section, but that, thanks to an impeccable voice acting, is saved.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart ushers in a new generation of adventure games headed by this charming heroic duo. Sadly, Rivet is a strong setpiece in the narrative but doesn’t differentiate enough in combat. Still, this doesn’t affect the sheer amount of fun you’ll be having during every moment of gameplay. There is so much packed in this adventure complemented by competent level design, amazing weapons, and strong platforming. This is Ratchet & Clank for the new generation, and I hope it’s not too long before we see them again.
Ratchet & Clank: A rift apart becomes on its own merits one of the most solid reasons to buy a PlayStation 5 and an ideal demonstration of all the potential it holds, offering us a small taste of the future that awaits us in the coming years.

You absolutely don’t need to have played Ratchet & Clank before to enjoy this excellent game. The self contained story will appeal to newbies and veterans of the series alike. With charming characters, fun gameplay, and extraordinary graphics, it is as much a treat to watch as it is to play.
In November 2020, the PlayStation 5 was released with high hopes of the new console gaming era. But until now, many PS5 games were multi-platform releases including the predecessor, PS4. So most of the currently available PS5 games didn’t really feel like ‘the game’. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart proudly yells out to be that special PS5 game. Sensational visuals and in-game production quality are top notch. The gameplay has various enhancements including the usage of the Dualsense controller’s haptic feedback, adaptive trigger features and PS5’s own sound tech, the Tempest 3D audio. There is no doubt for this game to be labeled as ‘the game’ of the new generation.

A certain level of scrappiness can be charming, but it’s harder to excuse in a big-budget project like this one, and three crashes in an hour is far too scrappy to be overlooked. Still, I do have a fondness for Rift Apart, perhaps because I do get the sense that this was a project built with love, yet not so much love that it wasn’t willing to experiment and try some new things. Once all the many, many bugs are fixed, this’ll be a pretty good game for families to enjoy, and a superb showcase for what the PS5 is capable of.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart mixes heart and humour in a very action driven adventure beautifully modernized for the new generation. The gameplay will completely engage you with a collection of very diversified weapons and well executed plateforming elements. If you were waiting for a system seller, this is the one. It uses the DualSense fully with haptic feedback and the adaptative triggers as well as the 3D Audio which put together truly give the feeling of a next-gen experience. It will definitely be amongs your favorite games of the year.

"Rift Apart" isn't just beautiful. Sunsets are. Chocolate soufflé is. Maybe siamese kittens too. Here, visual flair and unfathomable tech underneath the sparky, shiny surface constitute the greater experience. Stunning vistas, tremendous particle effects and Pixar-grade animation elevate the story and expand our imagination leading into pure, aesthetic ecstasy. Just look out for your feet - dropping jaw can be pretty damn heavy.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart not only exemplifies what the PS5 is capable of, but it's also everything that a video game should be: fun. The story has been masterfully crafted to engage with new audiences, as well as long-standing fans that have been with Ratchet and Clank through the past 19 years without having to beat the nostalgia-machine to death.
Even after 20 years, Ratchet & Clank is better than ever, and it looks like Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart will be for many new gamers what 2002’s original trailblazer was for me as a kid.
