If the audio didn’t absolutely carry this game, the one thing that I will give Halo Infinite is that it manages to be a good game, better than the other 2 big shooter games released recently. 343 Industries didn’t name this Halo 6 because if they did it would be so far departed from the franchise entirely. Thankfully, this managed to do what I knew it could, which is be the best out of the three FPS games in the past month.

Like Master Chief himself, Infinite lets its combat do the talking while looking towards a bright future. After that initial showing, we couldn't ask for more.

Ultimately, Halo Infinite's multiplayer is a victim to its progression system, that stands in the way of the excellently refined core of the game. It's certain to be a mainstay for years as the developers work out the kinks and factor in the fan feedback. Their work still paid off though, because the gameplay of Halo Infinite is the best of any multiplayer shooter from recent memory. It's just sullied by the egregious implementation of artificial hurdles to that gameplay, which knocks a point or two off the score. Without this abhorrent progression? Halo Infinite would be one of the best multiplayer shooters of the last 10 years.

Halo Infinite is, in my opinion, the best game of the series. While still faltering in the narrative, character development, and exposition, it improves earlier titles. Combat is entertaining and engaging, with improvements made across the board, but mention must go to new abilities like the grappling hook. The move to an open world helps the game stand apart, with added freedom to take the fight to your enemies and a vast arsenal of weapons and vehicles to bring into battle. While it slips up on a few occasions, from somebody who has never been part of the Halo fan club, this has given me a glimpse of what could be great things to come.

On the contrary, if you consider this change to be the first step in the Halo series' journey forward, I dare say that Halo Infinite is fully capable of fulfilling its role.

Halo Infinite features the same great gameplay and control from past campaigns, merged together with some awesome new additions like the Grappleshot, slide mechanic and AI field scan ability to bring the series up to modern FPS standards. The story and open-world design ultimately feel a bit lacking, but it’s still tonnes of fun regardless. Let’s finish the fight!

It has taken over six years for Halo Infinite to release, but after such a long wait, 343 has given fans the game that they've been holding out for. Although it might not win many points for originality, the latest entry in Xbox's flagship franchise has again verified why Halo is one of the most popular gaming properties on the planet. Even though this series is now two decades old, Halo Infinite proves that there is still plenty of creative juice left in the tank to make Halo feel fresh and relevant in the modern landscape. In simplest terms, Halo is back.

Despite a turbulent development and many initial doubts, Halo Infinite succeeds where other FPS have failed: excite with a campaign level and entertain with a solid gameplay and well thought out. Remains the disappointment of some shortcomings at day one and especially a technical system suffering in many places and saved mainly by an unparalleled fluidity and an inspired art style. 343 has nevertheless managed to create a chapter ready to start again, through an incredible journey, decided more than ever to reconcile with the old fans of the saga and at the same time attract new potential users. The King of the first-person shooter on consoles is officially back, now the future is all in the hands of the American software company, which will have to prove that it knows how to manage and support the title for the next few years. Halo, is it over? No, this is just the beginning.

Even after dozens of hours, the dance of movement and gunplay still feels wonderful to perform. It’s not a revolutionary redo of Halo’s principles, but rather, a refreshing revival that’s come at the perfect time.

At launch, Halo Infinite is a somewhat uneven bundle. The multiplayer is outstanding, and free to all players, even those without a Game Pass subscription. It recaptures that classic Halo magic from the early 2000’s, and has managed to inch out its competitors with its cleverly re-imagined gameplay. The campaign is less consistent, and harder to recommend unless you are really itching for yet another Chief/Cortana story. It’s a step up from Halo 5, absolutely, but its experiment with a larger map doesn’t quite land as well as it should. There are few memorable moments throughout, but its excellent gunplay makes it worth a try, even if you just mainline your way through the story missions.

"If Doom Eternal is a cheeseburger and fries at In-n-Out, then Halo Infinite is a steak dinner in the big city with an overpriced bottle of luscious red wine. It is buff grandpa showing the young hotshot how it’s done because he invented the game."

Halo Infinite offers the full Master Chief experience in a big, beautiful sandbox. While 343 may not be breaking new ground with the light open-world elements it has added, it has done a great job of creating a solid experience for new and returning players alike.

With Halo Infinite, 343 Industries is looking to innovate on an established franchise. Yet despite the new additions, such as the semi-open world, the core game design still feels a bit dated and it seems that the developers didn't know how to actually handle the new features. The graphics are better, but have plenty of problems. Even though Master Chief is more agile, you still have to play passively. The world is unimaginative and the quests feel monotonous. Fortunately though, what Halo did right before, it does right now, and the varied enemies, along with the huge arsenal of weapons, will definitely keep existing fans entertained. For everyone else, however, this title is more of an above-average game that tries to push its boundaries but still fails to break away from slightly outdated gameplay mechanics.
