Infernax is a truly retro experience that takes the best elements of the past to create a fun time in the present. It's tough but fair and a blast to play. Highly recommended for fans of action-adventure platformers like Castlevania.

If you’re a fan of classic Castlevania, you’re gonna like Infernax – and it’s so refreshing to play something that isn’t a soulslike or a roguelike and instead offers a true return to the days of old.

Here we have another great product from the independent scene. Highlighting its simple gameplay, a very well-made retro aesthetic and a nice incentive for new runs, Infernax is a great choice for those looking for a balance between fun and challenge within the platform action genre. Recommended and favorited in my 2022 games list.

Infernax is a bloody good time. The developers did a great job of harnessing just about everything that made classic platforming adventures like Castlevania great, while sprinkling in some new features along the way. The formula was not quite perfect for me, but it was pretty close and those looking for a challenging new game in the genre owe it to themselves to give Infernax a look.

Infernax walks a fine line between honoring the classics while adding its own unique stamp to the genre, and I am glad that it did so exceeding well. The game wears its inspiration proudly on its sleeve. And as a game all about stopping a demonic invasion, it is all the better for it. On a final note, Infernax doesn't take a hard stance on difficulty as it has a classic mode and a casual mode. It takes the player's choice to heart and does all that is reasonable to accommodate player preference without butchering the experience. This is one game that deserves a place in your classics library.

We can enjoy Infernax as a good neo-retro that takes us back to past times, but with a polished, fairer and more satisfying development and gameplay. But we are also facing an excellent adventure with its own specific weight that, with its very well managed combination of action, platforms and RPG, pleases anyone who has not had to live through those simple, although also more complicated, years of 8-bit systems. A job as measured as it is fun and enjoyable, whatever type of player you are.

Players not fond of a nostalgic challenge may bristle at Infernax's devotion to the past but beneath a few rough edges is a gory romp that hits a lot of classic notes.

This 2D, NES-era-inspired action platformer features rock-solid gameplay and an excellent progression system. While it definitely isn't for everyone, it's not trying to be for everyone, it's trying to be for people who like demon fetuses, platforming, and pixel art -- and it's succeeding.

From the moment you step onto these demon-infested lands to the moment you deal the killing blow to the game’s final boss, you’ll experience plenty of surprises – the Konami Code does something really cool, for example. Infernax’s retro soundtrack that rips from start to finish, beautiful art, challenging gameplay, and a fun Castlevania-inspired design, make it worth the price of admission.

Impressive efforts with a few noticeable problems holding them back. Won't astound everyone, but is worth your time and cash.

‎Without revolutionizing the metroidvania formula, Infernax manages to leave a very pleasant feeling. It does not invent anything, but the novelties it adds (decisions, NPCs with missions ...) make it a small and pleasant surprise within the subgenre. And in addition, it does so by squandering sympathy and with great replayable value.‎

Infernax is a great retro-styled title that adds in enough ideas of its own to stand up to modern standards. The gory combat and interesting level design maintain interest throughout, and there is lots of potential for replayability through the different moral paths to unlock. If retro gaming is your thing, then Infernax is a great game to add to your collection.

Infernax is in the right place between Ghost 'n Goblins and Castlevania, but it also has its own uniqueness that allows it to stand out. While playing, time flows by without you even noticing.

While Infernax is tough, it's resolutely fair - you can't really make the game 'easy', but you can absolutely mitigate the difficulty or take a break doing something else when you get stuck. Don't expect a simple ride, though, and don't expect to take the right decisions on a first playthrough - not that anything seems particularly 'right' in this beautifully bloody little world. It's only familiarity that lets Infernax down - there's nothing really new here, but it's all done and delivered so well that you won't really care unless you're desperate for a completely fresh experience. In which case why play a faux-retro NES throwback to begin with? A cut above most efforts in the subgenre, Infernax both demands and requires attention.

Players willing to push through some frustration, however, will find a macabre yet charming experience that harkens back to gaming’s early years. Infernax is a solid tribute to the Castlevania series and a fun time for anyone looking for an old-school monster-slaying dungeon crawler.

Infernax is a great game that I highly recommend to anyone who loves challenging platformer games that sound and look great. Especially if you don't mind figuring out what needs to be done next and aren't disgusted by blood and gore.

Infernax brings an interesting system of choices in a retro game, giving a certain freedom to the player, something that was not so common in the 8-bit era. The gameplay is quite primitive and there hasn't been too much effort to bring more modern elements to it. Thus, it is difficult to recommend Infernax to players who cannot tolerate the gameplay and aesthetics typical of the era it simulates. If that's not your case, Infernax is worth checking out. It's a nostalgic, fun game, with considerable content and with good surprises in store.

A gory affair, there’s a hell of a lot to like about Infernax. The tried-and-tested gameplay sits alongside purposefully dated but nonetheless charming visuals, but the freedom you have really sets this apart from other games in the genre. Will you save the world or be a blight on it? That’s up to you. And while you may always have good intentions, sometimes your decision can have unexpected results. In any case, you’ll have a lot of fun slaying monsters and developing Alcedor as you play.
