You will begin your playthrough by selecting one of the eight protagonists as your main character. I went with Hikari, the Prince of the kingdom of Ku. You can experience every character’s storyline, but the main character will use their own Path Actions. This sees a return from the previous game and allows one to interact with NPCs in unique ways, such as stealing, gaining information or an item. However, there are two available; daytime and nighttime.

To sum it all up, Octopath Traveler II comes close to being the ideal sequel. It once again totes that amazing HD-2D aesthetic and style, and continues to build on the successful foundations of the series. The storytelling has also improved, with crafted tales that feel both easier to get into and remain invested in. Yet, the game does lack meaningful surprises in a sense, remaining steadfastly familiar to the 2018 release save for the new tweaks. It doesn’t make Octopath Traveler II any less of a great JRPG; just be sure to check your expectations at the door.

As someone who got bored and stopped playing after a period of time in the first game, I thoroughly enjoyed my entire time with Octopath Traveler 2. It is a successful sequel that is quite advanced in terms of both technique and content.

Octopath Traveler II is a proof that sometimes, originality is a bit overrated. The game doesn't really offer anything new, but it's an top-qualityJRPG nonetheless.

Octopath Traveler II has the formula for being one of, if not the greatest Japanese Role-Playing games of all time. A modern classic for that ages.

Octopath Traveler II manages to bring everything together in the end, and the 50+ hours you’ll spend getting through the main missions certainly won’t feel wasted. Whether this will be crowned best RPG at year’s end is debatable, but it’s a damn good game all the same and well worth playing.

Despite not being innovative in gameplay and leaving points to be improved in the HD2D style, as well as having a story that could be more organic and interesting, Octopath Traveler II has a lot of content, generally good protagonists, a beautiful and varied OST and a dynamic, versatile and accessible gameplay , with the care to respond partially or totally to the main criticisms of the first Octopath Traveler. This title is highly recommended for fans of classic style JRPGs from the 16-bit era and those who enjoyed any other Team Asano games.

The developers proved they listened to their fans by including more travel banter and all-new companion sidequests, giving them believable reasons as to why they would be traveling with each other. All the new features enhanced an already great concept, making Octopath Traveler II a true masterpiece of a RPG.

Octopath Traveler 2 is a fantastic sequel that retains its distinct features while enhancing its overall coherence. It's a top-tier JRPG from Square Enix and a strong contender for 2023's GOTY. Although pacing issues persist, the game's narrative rewards perseverance, resulting in a memorable experience. Whether new or returning, players will find plenty of entertainment and engagement in this title.

Octopath Traveler 2 is a JRPG unlike anything I have played in recent years. Its combat system feels so fresh compared to the original considering the latest powers and EX abilities. The focus on character interactions, as well as their respective voice cast, allowed me to fall in love with every character from the main cast. As well as leaving me stunned by the calculated risks taken in the finale of the game that deliver emotionally impactful moments. The sites of Solistia and the freedom I had to explore with the soundtrack accompanying me left a lasting impact on me. Octopath Traveler 2 is an absolutely fantastic time from start to finish even when reaching the 70-hour mark. You do not want to miss it. As I believe it is the best in the class of Square Enix’s 2D-HD games so far.

masterclass in narrative convergence, the eight-fold seemingly disparate paths of Octopath Traveler II come together to form a tightly plotted and engaging whole. Though its gameplay is not ground-breaking, its battles are fun and rewarding and manage to cut out much of the grind of its predecessor, making it an essential JRPG experience.

I could just ask you if you liked the first Octopath Traveler and if you did, you will like the second one. But that would be doing an injustice. To those who didn't get a chance to do the original title, you can do the second one without concern. But to those who have already done it, there are still minor adjustments that enhance our overall experience. The soundtrack is boundlessly generous, the day/night cycle is welcome and, let's face it, each character's storyline is more interesting. At the risk of repeating myself, you can't change a winning formula. But you can certainly tweak it a bit. And that's exactly what Square Enix has done successfully.

Octopath Traveler 2 is wonderful, from the choices it gives you right at the start, to the stories it tells, the ways they’re presented, and the mechanics that drive them. This is Square Enix at their RPG making best, the types of games they were renowned for years past and are at the very core of their DNA. One of the most enjoyable, refreshing retro-modernistic adventures I have ever had the pleasure of playing and one RPG fans simply must add to their collection.

Octopath Traveler 2 shows that Square Enix and Acquire have managed to evolve over the intended plans for the former. It's not a revolution, it's a splendid evolution that results in a new golden page for the company. It is a JRPG for all who grew up with the classics of the era of 90, but also a magnificent starting point for those who want to discover the genre. The aesthetic is perfect and has contributed immensely to its charm, as well as the characters, also the combat system boasts quality, although simple is challenging, while the soundtrack is a stunning company for more than 80 hours of content that you do not want to stop discovering. There are few games of this range and our mission is to carve them.
