Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is made up of mostly good quality photos. The game itself is fun and solid, delivering a competent story and unusual and addictive combat. Exploration and puzzle solving are also strengths, as are the positives brought about by the remastering process. Unfortunately, it didn't rid the game of some very ugly textures and confusing gameplay when trying to control the characters and their lanterns. It also doesn't help that exploration is somewhat slow and plot development requires a lot of reading. Although a remake would perhaps have been a better option, these problems do not compromise the experience, especially for fans of the genre or those who were very curious about this unique and competent proposal.

I swear… I love this game, but man I was asking for it when a remake came back with all of its clumsy mechanics.

Project Zero: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a good remake. It paints an engaging and delightfully horrific world to delve into, with shocking twists and secrets to uncover at every turn. While players will very likely be left picking up the pieces of its narrative largely told through readables, it's rewarding when it all clicks into place, painting a harrowing picture set in Southern Japan. It may be a remake that is still very of its era, with finicky camera movement and some questionable female character skins that can only come from that of gaming in the 2000s. However, in every other aspect, Mask of the Lunar Eclipse revels in its origins. On offer is wicked, tense and tight combat performed creatively through the Camera Obscura. It's environmental design and scares are begging to be picked apart in true throwback fashion. Well worth the resurfacing indeed.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a fun romp through old fashioned Japanese horror. The atmosphere is lovely, the story is interesting, and though the gameplay might wear down a bit over time, it’s a unique survival horror game that I can recommend to anyone.

For many far of the franchise Fatal Frame Mask of the Lunar Eclipse has been an incredibly long time coming with the first time it’s launched officially outside of Japan. Providing one of the series’ most compelling stories; ambitiously weaving the adventures of four protagonists. Unfortunately, some gameplay issues hold it back from being a true classic. With Fatal Frame finally back in the spotlight there is hope for more.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse seems like a masterpiece that should have released 2 or 3 generations ago, as its visuals are dated and its control mechanisms is something that we don't see anymore these days. But on the plus side it offers a mysterious world and atmosphere, a great sense of fear and a solid story. Just the like the old days.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a solid and enjoyable experience for fans of old-school survival-horror. It might be a bit too slow-paced and awkward for those who don't have a taste for 2008 game design, but that's the biggest criticism about it. It doesn't break the mold for the franchise, but it's one of the more solid and enjoyable examples of it, and it's a good place to start if you'd like to see what is up with the long-running horror series.

After its remastered release, Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse has undoubtedly given players more reasons to try this classic horror game. Exquisite and beautiful characters, an intriguing plot, and innovative storytelling make this work seem quite excellent in quality. However, as a game released 15 years ago, many of its mechanics have not been optimised and have been faithfully copied to the PC. Nowadays, some of the systems are outdated and significantly affect the player's experience.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a finely polished, absolutely worthwhile remaster of the fourth game in the franchise, with excellent sound and visuals, fun mechanics, and a genuinely haunting story, held back from a higher score only by its outdated controls and sluggish character movement.

It may not be perfect, but the localization of Fatal Frame: Mask of The Lunar Eclipse polishes the original product in ways that only benefit the package. Some things can't be easily improved, like stiff main characters or combat fundamentals, but this is a solid effort to bring this game stateside. Horror fans will have a great time here, but it might not be enough for everyone to jump into.

Solid and definitely has an audience. There could be some hard-to-ignore faults, but the experience is fun.

It is appreciated that this game has finally arrived in the West, because it is a very meritorious and well set survival horror, although at a technical level it accuses the passage of the years.

A slow-paced, languid horror remaster, Project Zero: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is not only a chance for western players to finally play a Japan-only entry in the series, but it's also a haunted house experience that delivers on creepiness.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is an excellent installment of this popular series. The changes made to bring the game to the next generation consoles (and to bring it to the world) are successful. The only downside is the pixelated floor and wall textures when we are close. A modernization of the controls would have been appreciated since it is very difficult to be precise. Fatal Frame IV has a very interesting storyline with a lot of details. Once you have adapted to the controls, you will have a lot of fun confronting the spectres of the place. If you like survival horror, I can only advise you to try Fatal Frame IV without delay!

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a forgotten title that is getting a second chance at life by coming to the West for the first time in 15 years. The title offers a classic survival horror experience that few modern-day games are able to deliver and with improved visuals paired with quality of life changes, it is easily the best Fatal Frame entry you can play on consoles currently.
