Even six months after release, Immortals of Aveum is in dire need of more polish and a whole bunch of new patches.

It would be very wrong if the aftertaste from the title test was not negative. We equally believe that the videogame industry in the year 2023 lacks these titles, the simple ones, the honest ones, or AA as we used to say in the early 2000s.

Immortals of Aveum is not a bad game. However, it’s not as exciting or as magical as I hoped it would be with its fantasy setting and FPS gameplay that incorporates spells instead of guns.

Perhaps the game has not been fully exploited in all aspects; Many scenarios look similar, giving the impression of having visited them constantly and there is not a large number of different enemies. The story is not a prodigy of originality either, but it is well carried, manages to convey drama and has interesting twists. And even with everything, the work that stars in these lines is still a good starting point for something that with successful updates could be as interesting as the playing field that presents us.

Immortals of Aveum is a game that I genuinely enjoyed every second I could play. It was well-paced, with fun and engaging gameplay. I want to love it but that love is limited by the fact I was unable to finish it.

The gameplay crafted by Ascendant Studios, albeit without any particular creative flourishes, is fun and involving for the entire duration of the adventure, supported by a script that, despite some unoriginal writing and sometimes too childish dialogues, contributes to keeping the title enjoyable from start to finish. An FPS that, also due to optimisation problems, fails to express its potential, but is nevertheless able to provide a few hours of fun to all lovers of the genre.

Immortals of Aveum comes at a time when games are almost like homework - they demand time and attention. They require you to almost put your life on hold and live a different, more exciting, and rewarding life in the vast virtual playgrounds they offer. This is not something to complain about — I look back fondly at the time when, for a good three months, I abandoned everything in my life to become an outlaw in the American Frontier when Red Dead Redemption 2 came out. Video games possess a transformative and teleporting power that frankly no other medium can replicate. But sometimes you don't need your games to be a full course meal. They're perfectly palatable as a snack. Immortals is that bite-sized biscuit that won't really leave a memorable flavour in your mouth, but will taste just fine, and be the exact kind of meal you need at that point. Right around the time when ambitious video games are showcasing the incredible depth they can offer, Immortals of Aveum represents a bygone simplicity and shallowness of the medium, that perhaps is just as important.

Those who seek for everything, loses everything. That's the fate of Ascendant Studios' first title.

Immortals of Aveum stands as a testament to creative innovation in gaming. With further refinements, it could have been the year's blockbuster hit. Nevertheless, it delivers an intriguing and distinct experience for action game fans. A must-try as we approach a thrilling fall gaming lineup.

Making good use of visual effects to compose its combats full of magic and emotion, Immortals of Aveum manages to deliver an original and fun adventure. The fights offer many options for players, with various types of magic, equipment and special abilities, compensating for the game's many problems. It's a shame that more care was needed in these areas, but we still have a great title for for FPS fans.

Immortals of Aveum had more than that, but it is still an OK title; it is not extraordinary, but it doesn't offend, and on the other hand, the humor and audio side of things are good. It's a shame about the appalling technical state on PC, where the title has problems even on a more robust build, but when the developers fix it? It'll be an acceptable title to unwind with.

Ultimately, Immortals of Aveum stands tall in the first-person shooter genre, replacing guns and bullets with magical mayhem. The combat is engrossing and intense, the puzzles and platforming provide plenty of reasons to enjoy the details, and its full focus on a single-player experience pays dividends with a solid campaign that bodes well for building something even bigger. True to its name, perhaps this is one game that will definitely live long in the memory.

Aveum is a world that stands and falls on the power of magic. You will enjoy the magic fights, but you will still miss something. There is no reason to slander the game, it is just not distinctive enough to elbow its way to the forefront among the current top titles.

No doubt Immortals of Aveum is an experience that you will not forget any time soon. Its graphical prowess and its combat and gear system are serviceable, albeit uninspiring. The star-studded cast will likely leave a lasting impression. But its overly linear loop and complete lack of meaningful side content hamper replayability while relying too heavily on typical AAA design choices. Immortal of Aveum checks off many lists, but it plays it safe for the most part.

Immortals of Aveum adds some fresh twists to the formula, but mostly sticks to the basics of the fps genre. The worldbuilding and overall presentation look great, and shooting the different kinds of magic powers feels responsive and fun. But there are some flaws that do retract from the overall experience. The story goes all over the place in terms of tone, and performance wise there is still a lot of progress to be made. In between all the 2023 heavy hitters, Immortals sadly just falls a bit flat.

Immortals of Aveum is the perfect example of a mid-tier experience. There’s some good ideas in there – and some things are executed well – but with so many others not feeling quite right, enjoyment will really vary person to person. We hope Ascendant Studios gets the chance to have a second shot at casting a spell on the genre. If given the space to jettison some tropes and really focus on their concept, there could be something really special here.

Immortals of Aveum is the first project from Ascendant Studios and there is nothing wrong with that. It's just not a high-flyer because the game doesn't get past the border of somewhat entertaining. The story is quite mediocre, the controls are quite counterintuitive on the console and the main missions are linear. There could have been more if it had been given more of an adult touch.

Immortals of Aveum feels like a bunch of different ideas all smushed up together to make one game; none of it feels cohesive or even forms a standout experience. The storyline is something you see coming, although it does it in a way that still makes you want to play it out to see it actually happen, despite the horrible combat and puzzles you have to go through to get there. Despite all of its drawbacks, which is quite an enormous amount, I did somehow find myself enjoying little parts of the game. But just a fraction; not enough to recommend it to people in good faith.
