Mass Effect Andromeda was one the most anticipated games of 2017 and so many fans wanted to know how Bioware plan to continue this franchise without Captain Shepard. Despite having a lot of positive points, graphical bugs, poor animations and repetitive missions prevent the game to be a true Mass Effect. If Andromeda didn't have the name of Mass Effect franchise attached, it could do a lot better.

Despite a few flaws Mass Effect: Andromeda is still a wonderful science fiction story with some memorable moments. It is without a doubt one of the best single player experiences on Xbox One. That said, it would be a mistake to overlook the online mode because the frantic shootings with friends is a great thing to do!

A divisive entry in a lauded series, which manages to succeed despite encumbering its open-world design and interesting upbeat narrative with lacklustre combat and poor UI.

It feels like Andromeda is worth exploring just once. In many important ways it's a small step for BioWare, but with regard to characters especially, it's hard to ignore the giant leap backwards.

Mass Effect: Andromeda attempts to build upon the foundation of the previous games. We see that in the presence of all the weapon ammo patterns and the Nomad. In some ways, like the large explorable areas and the cover-based combat system that’s been infused, and subsequently refreshed, with a good bit of movement and versatility on the skill front, it succeeds.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is overall an enjoyable experience, with a stand out combat system and expansive worlds to explore. Where it lets itself down in character animations and dialogue, it makes up for it in the gripping storyline and customization options. I believe that the release time was essentially one of the biggest problems Andromeda has had to deal with regarding its acceptance, due to hitting the shelves after games that are contenders for Game of the Year such as: Horizon: Zero Dawn and Zelda: Breath of the Wild. After experiencing games that are almost graphically perfect and storylines that captive you from the word go, it can be quite easy to pick apart what is essentially a very good game, but hasn’t hit the mark quite as well as those released just before it. It is important to push through the first few hours of the game to really begin to experience everything that Andromeda has to offer, and it’s a lot. Fans of the franchise will most likely be as conflicted about their overall feelings as I am however, still be happy with the end result. Andromeda deserves it’s time in the spotlight, as the things that have not been done well are greatly outweighed by the things that have been done exceptionally well.

Mass Effect games usually have decent gameplay and focus on an exceptionally written story with very engaging characters. This one feels completely reversed as the gameplay is loads of fun, with a lot of experimentation, and is also well executed. The story on the other hand suffers from major problems along with most of the characters being bland and boring. Multiplayer may be fun to play, but very little has been added to the mode to keep you engaged for long unless you’re a hardcore fan of the mode. Overall the game doesn’t really innovate much in the way of newness and there is some work to be done to make the sequel to be a success the Mass Effect that surpasses the original games. However, there is a lot of potential to explore in this brand new galaxy.

Honestly, I'd like to give Mass Effect a higher score. It's a fantastic game in the areas where it's strong. At the same time, it's also got a lot of problems that should not be this visible in a final release. This ultimately feels like a game of wasted potential, which is saying something because the finished product is still damn good.

If you can come to terms with Mass Effect: Andromeda's rough edges and embrace its focus on exploring interesting planets and sub-plots above a single epic storyline, there is a substantial and captivating interstellar adventure to be found within.

I, for one, am going back to Andromeda, fighting the Kett and the Remnant, and I'm going to enjoy every second of it.

The game still provides many hours of enjoyment and lots of the good things that fans have come to expect, but those hoping the series uses this opportunity to take another giant leap may find themselves brought back to Earth with a bump.

Andromeda seems to miss the point on what made the Mass Effect games great. Marred by constant bugs and framerate issues, you'll be hard pressed to find anything that will keep you in for the long haul.

Mass Effect Andromeda does not follow the Mass Effect series very closely, yet Bioware has injected it with some of the elements that made the previous entries successful. Yet these elements alone weren't enough to compensate for the empty world, superficial characters, technical issues, and more. The gameplay experience will definitely be unique to each player and the level of enjoyment will depend on how attached the player is to the series.

Thankfully, combat is where the game shines. The gunplay is fantastic and the new contextual cover system works well, with only one or two instances where I couldn’t break or enter cover. The new jet pack is probably the best addition to the game.

It's mediocre, not awful. This review slants negative because I find the writing mostly bad, but my experience with Andromeda is almost worse in some ways: For much of my 55 hours with it, I felt nothing at all. It just exists, content to let you run from fetch quest to fetch quest, chasing the appearance of importance while saying nothing at all. It'd be easier to just condemn the whole endeavor and write it off, but that's not entirely fair. I'm mostly ambivalent, or "I'm not mad, just disappointed," as my parents might've said—and ouch, that always stung much worse.

Mass Effect Andromeda is a little rough around the edges but still provides fans of this series or newcomers an immersive experience in another part of this universe. There’s some good storytelling and world building with interesting gameplay mechanics to help keep you invested. I like my protagonist of Sara Ryder and even though she’s no Commander Shepherd, we did have a connection and I look forward to visiting this universe time and time again. Sure, the graphics can cause some issues at times and as mentioned, hopefully these will be resolved in the future but overall, Mass Effect Andromeda ticks all the right boxes when it comes to space exploration as it channels its persona from science fiction. Sure, there is still grinding involved as you ‘level-up’ your character but if you make the investment, Mass Effect Andromeda delivers on most levels.
