For fans of the JRPG genre and those who skipped the Wii U version, this is a must-have addition to the backlog. For all other genre fans, this is a chance to experience a world that may have been forgotten but has now returned stronger than ever.

Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition has delivered the second chance that Monolith Soft’s epic sci-fi RPG deserved to find a wider audience. With its deeply emotional storytelling and world-building, I still see Xenoblade Chronicles 3 as the pinnacle of what the developer has long worked to achieve but this unforgettable space opera is close behind it thanks to its astounding technical execution and thrill-inducing battle systems.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is just that - the definitive version of an outstanding game that few had the pleasure of experiencing upon its initial WiiU release.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition isn't a standout like Part 3 was. The game has too many unnecessary problems. Popping objects, a story that drags at the beginning, and a somewhat confusing menu are simply things that drag on the enjoyment of the game. However, this is offset by the fact that the game is ultimately fun. Mira is a fantastic world that rewards you for exploring it. The story eventually picks up, and the graphics are very good, aside from the aforementioned issues.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition stands as one of the most ambitious JRPGs ever created in terms of its world and content. While this scale comes at the expense of elements that once distinguished the series — particularly in storytelling and other areas — it still delivers an experience that no JRPG fan should miss. With this release, the Nintendo Switch becomes home to a legendary series whose level of ambition is rarely seen in today's market.

Even for those who had already played the original, those touches ensure it’s a delight to play, and the new epilogue is very much in keeping of what fans of the series have come to expect. Xenoblade Chronicles X’s Definitive Edition is exactly that, and another excellent late addition to the Switch’s bulging library.

Xenoblade Chronicles X already proved its mettle when it was considered by many to be one of the standout titles on the Wii U, and its arrival on the Nintendo Switch only solidifies its place among the console’s best. While the pacing can feel glacial at times, the game’s rich world and new content make it an inviting experience for newcomers and a rewarding return for veterans.

The new version delivers relevant visual improvements, gameplay adjustments and a surprising post-game, which significantly expands the narrative. I can say, without a doubt, that every second exploring this immense planet is totally worth it.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is bigger and better than ever on Nintendo Switch. The numerous quality-of-life upgrades and additions make the experience even more satisfying, and there simply is nothing like roaming the world of Mira inside your Skell. Jump in, get in that robot, pump up that music, and have a heck of a time doing it.

If you're a fan of big robots, melodrama, and love exploration, Xenoblade Chronicles X should be right up your alley. It's a wonderful time capsule from a console that barely got its due, and a terrific example of how well some of these almost forgotten games have stood the test of time.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition closes on Nintendo Switch the entire epic of the saga built over the years by Monolith Soft, with a series of improvements related to gameplay, visual aspect, menu interface and quality of life, seasoned with a story that thanks to the unreleased chapter concludes the events left almost open by the ending of the "vanilla" title. Xenoblade Chronicles X will not have in some ways the same memorability of a "numbered" Xenoblade on the main story, but the world of Mira and the entire lore built above the surface of the planet, also expanded by the new characters and the unreleased chapter, are the most fascinating of the entire saga. For those who are passionate about Xenoblade or JRPG in general and are orphaned by the original, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a must. Different but at the same time familiar to the other episodes of the saga in its gameplay structure, it will accompany you under the arm for many hours. A journey that, as long as you are not allergic to experiences with many missions to do, will still remain in your heart.

A gorgeous open-world JRPG with giant mechs, weird pacing, and a storyline that asks for your patience more than your brain.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a brilliant upgrade to what was already one of the best games on the Wii U. Minor snags have been fixed all over the place, making for a smoother and more accessible RPG, though fans of the original may be mixed on the narrative additions. I hope to see Elma and the gang return someday in the future, as this Definitive Edition is a reminder of how strong their world is.

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is the best version of what I still feel is Monolith Soft’s best outing yet. It’s a bang-on, quintessential example of how to create a massive, alien world that is stylish and inviting. It’s packed with imagination, and its mechanics mostly come together quite seamlessly to create an overwhelming, childlike feeling that I don’t feel any game has managed to replicate since then. With the changes made to the Nintendo Switch version, I feel this more strongly than ever. It’s nothing if not a classic in my eyes. However, it’s hard to gloss over just how poor I feel the Definitive Edition’s story content is. It leads to a wonderful game ending on a sour note, to the point that I actually wind up preferring the original’s notoriously inconclusive ending. After ruminating on it, it’s hard to reconcile the Afterstory with what the rest of the game presents, and in some ways it’s Xenoblade at its worst. However, the Afterstory is only a small part of an awesome package. If you want to explore a massive world, gunning down obstacles in your big robot with sick beats, look no further.
