Marvel's Wolverine is paying a price that isn't its own. The resentment toward Sony, the fatigue with a genre that has been overrepresented—far too much: these contextual factors say nothing about the game's true value, yet they inevitably influence how it's received. But it would be unfair to stop there. Because while the story takes risks, the gameplay does not: it plays it safe, polished but never truly surprising, almost timid compared to what Insomniac has proven it can do elsewhere. Wolverine is a game that never truly tries to be memorable through and through, neither when it takes risks nor when it doesn’t. It remains a solid title, with enjoyable combat and a top-notch voice cast, but it lacks that spark that had won us over back in the 2021 teaser.

Marvel’s Wolverine is a game that knows exactly what it wants to be. It doesn’t want to be another Spider-Man. It doesn’t want to offer a huge open world. It doesn’t want to fill every corner of the map with activities and collectibles. It wants to tell a Wolverine story and make us feel, controller in hand, all the ferocity of the clawed Canadian. And in that regard, the result is convincing. The combat system is simple but immediate, the violence of the clashes fits the character perfectly, the campaign maintains a good pace, and the technical department is undoubtedly one of the production’s standout features. To this we can add excellent Italian voice acting and a portrayal of Logan that manages to give the protagonist a more intimate dimension. On the other hand, we find a structure that’s far too rigid, very little exploration, an almost total absence of side content, and some mechanics—such as the Gates of Nightmare—that could have been developed with greater care. The camera, moreover, doesn’t always keep up with the frenzy of the fights. In short, Insomniac hasn’t reinvented third-person action, but that wasn’t necessarily its goal. It took Wolverine and turned him into a linear, brutal, and spectacular action game. Perhaps something more could have been done, especially in terms of variety and exploration, but when Logan unsheathes his claws and charges at a group of enemies, it’s hard not to have fun. After years spent swinging between the skyscrapers of New York, Insomniac has taken us into the mud, the blood, and the memories of James Logan. And, at least for once, less isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

While Wolverine is by no means perfect, the game does deliver on its promises. Which means it offers explosively straightforward action, great technical execution, and a story that respects its characters and history.

Marvel’s Wolverine occupies an ambiguous position: it is not a failure, but it is certainly a product that struggles to shine in the shadow of the studio's previous major successes.

Marvel's Wolverine experience is soulless, lacking any creativity that could make it stand out. The story isn't good at all, and completely kills your anticipation for the future of the X-Men with Insomniac. Not only that, but the game also annoyingly holds your hand and guides you to the extent that it feels like it doesn't trust you to make simple decisions. Also the combat, while being entertaining, it lacks the depth and novelty needed to elevate its design beyond merely having excellent animation and graphics. In short, Marvel's Wolverine isn't bad, but it is an entirely forgettable experience.

Marvel: Lobezno delivers a brutal and cinematic action experience that captures the essence of Logan and the X-Men. Its agile combat, satisfying progression and faithful recreation of the character stand out, although its linear structure, occasional camera issues and technical bugs hold it back from reaching its full potential.

If you’re a die-hard Logan fan who has never missed a single story or interpretation of the character, Wolverine will likely keep you entertained for nearly 20 hours. However, if you came to Wolverine looking for replay value or a modern and varied superhero experience, it will undoubtedly leave you disappointed. It’s an experience that can easily be considered Insomniac Games’ weakest superhero outing across the past two generations.

Its easy, good, and until u get to the conclusion of the narrative, keeps you on the edge of your seat. Marvel’s Spider-man 2 was one impressive game, and in my opinion Marvel’s Wolverine tops it

I have been pretty harsh overall with Marvel’s Wolverine but it’s really not a bad game by any stretch, it’s just my (and everyone else’s) expectations were so high in the wait for this release and my history and fandom did it no favors as well. There’s just too many other good Marvel titles of the past 5 years that I would recommend you check out before Wolverine, such as any of the Insomniac Spider-Man titles or the Guardians of the Galaxy game.

Marvel’s Wolverine fights through its flaws with the determination and grit of Logan himself, resting on an engaging, comic-accurate story, a superb lead performance from Liam McIntyre, and the most satisfying combat the studio has ever built. It might not reinvent the wheel, but it doesn’t need to – I finished it, immediately wanted to start it again, and that’s the highest compliment I can give to this game. Fans of the film series may struggle with the comic book accuracy of the character in the game, but if you allow yourself to dive into the incredible story on show here, you will have a great time.

All in all, Marvel’s Wolverine isn’t the next great evolutionary step for the action genre. It doesn’t need to be. It can just be a highly polished, brutally entertaining character-action game that makes smart decisions about how a man-beast should move, fight and behave.

Marvel’s Wolverine offers a violent and bloody action experience with a cinematic nature, alongside linear level design and very limited exploration, in addition to excellent and stable technical performance without noticeable frame drops. Unfortunately, however, the game represents a huge missed opportunity in terms of story and characters, along with enemy repetition and a lack of challenge, even when playing on higher difficulty levels, with exaggerated ease that reduces the overall enjoyment of the experience. In the end, Marvel’s Wolverine is one of those PlayStation games that I felt had a massive opportunity to deliver a much better experience than what we actually received.

Marvel's Wolverine is a brutal brawler with great characters, but it never quite reaches Insomniac's best work because of repetitive missions, limited exploration, and shallow progression.

Marvel’s Wolverine delivers an excellent portrayal of Logan, combining brutal combat with meaningful exploration of his human side. Its focused linear design works well, though excessive linearity, repetitive encounters, and few boss fights limit variety. Overall, it captures the character effectively while keeping the man behind the claws at its core.

Insomniac Games took the proven foundation of their previous action games and adapted it for Wolverine. The result is an entertaining, fast-paced, and visually impressive comic-book action game that may not revolutionize the genre, but does what it does very well.

While Marvel and X-Men fans may certainly find enjoyment with Insomniac's interpretation of the X-Men mythos, if what you're looking for is the next, great superhero action game, Marvel's Wolverine is a good, not great game.

If you're a Wolverine fan and want to experience the character's brutality to the fullest, Marvel’s Wolverine will satisfy you to a certain extent. However, if you're looking for a superhero game that pushes the boundaries of the genre, you may have to keep waiting a little longer this time.

Marvel's Wolverine delivers a highly entertaining action experience with its brutal combat mechanics, satisfying Rage system and fast-paced cinematic storytelling. However, its weak and predictable story, lack of enemy variety and repetitive gameplay loop hold back its potential. Ultimately, while it falls short of the expectation of being the greatest superhero game ever made, the result is an above-average production that fans of linear action games can thoroughly enjoy.

Wolverine stands out for its compelling storytelling, strong performances, and action sequences that effectively capture the character’s wild nature. However, due to its repetitive combat system, limited exploration, and mediocre boss battles, it falls short of its potential.
