Delta is a remake that walks a tightrope between admiration and routine. It takes your breath away when you traverse the jungle as Snake, yet it constantly reminds you that you are experiencing something already seen, merely dressed in new lights and polygons. Konami has done an impeccable job technically, but without Kojima's wild touch, everything remains predictable, elegant, yet lacking the spark that made the original an unforgettable experience.

With Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami has crafted a visually arresting re-release so fawning and reverent that it reads entirely incurious. Fans of the source material will no doubt relish the opportunity to play a more modern-feeling take on a generational piece of art, but such a seemingly important work should inspire more.

Snake Eater, in its time travel 20 years into the future, hasn’t fully managed to preserve its masterpiece status in every sense, but it has succeeded in remaining a truly one-of-a-kind experience.

On the other hand, this really isn’t a new game, and while it wouldn’t be fair to say the remake’s efforts were “lazy,” it’s also hard to shake the feeling that where the Silent Hill 2 remake was exciting by virtue of how new it was, this is just that game, that we’ve already played and loved to death, in a prettier dress. But hey, if you’ve somehow not played Metal Gear Solid 3 before, this is going to blow your mind.

With Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami has achieved what it set out to do: breathe new life into a classic while keeping it as authentic as possible. With that in mind, its only real faults are some mechanics which now feel a little awkward and dated. The visuals here are phenomenal, bringing more nuance to the game's cutscenes, and the new modern play style is great for newcomers and those annoyed by the restrictive camera of the original game.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a fantastic game because the title it's based on is splendid. Konami offers excellent graphics in this new version. The only problem is that there was room to modernize elements of the original game while still maintaining respect for the work, but the developer decided to play safe. This means that if you're expecting something different from what you've known for over 20 years, you'll be disappointed. On the other hand, for those looking to relive Snake's adventure or experience the saga for the first time, Metal Gear Solid Delta is an excellent option.

A cynic might look at it and see a barely enhanced 20+ year old game, but a closer inspection reveals a version that meticulously enhances the game's rough edges without affecting its design or balance at all. The perfect remaster for a title that even now is ahead of the game.

Overall, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a well done remaster of a game that remains as classic as it ever was. The changes are a mix of positive and negative, but there aren't any that drag down the experience. At worst, they're a matter of preference. For many people, this title is likely to be the optimal way to experience Metal Gear Solid 3, and it's easy to be impressed by the sheer amount of work that went into capturing the classic original.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a good remake, but it's a step below contemporary games that have taken that route to connect with the past. Although it's rough around the edges, it manages to respect Kojima Productions' original work, so beyond the audiovisual improvements and gameplay improvements, you'll have in your hands the same great game from 2004. Nothing more, nothing less.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater changes what needs to be changed while leaving the core intact. A remake that is both a gift to fans and a golden opportunity for anyone venturing into Operation Snake Eater for the first time. A game that will not be forgotten, with a new look that will help to create new and great memories.

A careful but not overly courageous remake of a masterpiece that everyone should play: a little old in its structure, but brilliant and contemporary in other aspects.

METAL GEAR SOLID DELTA: SNAKE EATER takes an already awesome game and enhances it in profound ways that'll impress everyone from newcomers to long-time fans. It does such a phenomenal job that I wish every remake could remain this true yet be this innovative. 🐍

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater proves that visual fidelity cannot mask outdated gameplay. It is a gorgeous reminder of a classic, but not a compelling experience for 2025. For new players, it will feel awkward and punishing. For veterans, it may spark nostalgia but also frustration.

This is Snake Eater—bonkers, brazen and still one of the slickest spy thrillers you’ll ever crawl through.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater manages to recapture the essence of 2004’s original, and it’s a remake that both original and new fans of the Metal Gear Solid series will be proud of. I believe that a large portion of the motivation behind this remake was to appeal to newer fans who aren’t familiar with the Metal Gear franchise, and I can assure you that you’ll love this classic.

If you’ve played Metal Gear Solid 3 before, then you know what you want. Do you want Metal Gear Solid 3 exactly as you remember it, but looking much better and running much better? If so, then great – you want Metal Gear Solid Δ. Just get it, you know you want it. It’s as good as a remake is ever going to be.

At its best, Delta reminded me exactly why I consider Snake Eater one of the best games of all time. At its worst, it reminded me of the risks of remakes: sometimes new mechanics clash with old bones. But here’s what matters: in 2025, stealth action is nearly extinct. And even with its uneven balance and technical hiccups, Snake Eater still towers above most modern games. It’s proof that a masterpiece can endure.
