Anno 117: Pax Romana is Ubisoft's most ambitious attempt to transition the Anno series into an incredibly rich historical period, one that has the potential to produce a complex and multi-layered experience, both culturally and economically. The game succeeds in many ways: the geographical diversity, the design of production chains, the new social structure, the striking difference between Latium and Albion, and the use of cultural layers make 117 one of the most mature entries in the series in terms of gameplay depth.

Without major innovations when compared to its predecessor, Anno 117: Pax Romana proves to be one of the best and most fun building and management experiences currently available. Even with a sometimes clunky interface, especially with the DualSense controller, it offers a very organic management and progression system with great visuals.

"Anno 117: Pax Romana represents the pinnacle of historical city-building. By shifting the focus from industrial efficiency to cultural adaptation and logistical engineering, Ubisoft Mainz has crafted a masterpiece that feels both fresh and familiarly addictive. While the combat remains the series' Achilles' heel and the learning curve is steep enough to rival the Alps, the sheer satisfaction of constructing a sprawling, functioning Roman empire is unmatched. It is a triumphant display of strategy that proves the Pax Romana is far from boring."

Anno 117: Pax Romana is a game that knows how to pull you into its web of systems and challenges, yet it rarely leaves the kind of lasting mark that defines true genre classics. It attracts, entertains, and frustrates in equal measure. It’s good enough to deserve a chance, but not quite distinctive enough to be the kind of experience you’ll want to revisit for years to come.
