Bye Sweet Carole is an emotionally charged and haunting adventure that blends its eerie puzzles, striking hand-drawn art, and atmospheric storytelling into a dark yet beautiful fairy tale. Though a few rough edges and minor bugs occasionally break the spell, its emotional depth and meticulous craft make it a truly unforgettable experience.

Much like classic Disney, Bye Sweet Carole exudes a nostalgic charm that’s hard not to admire—its visuals, sound, and story all steeped in vintage flair and period commentary. Sadly, much like Disney today, it’s hard to love despite that beauty. With sluggish pacing, thin gameplay, and only half the heart of a point-and-click adventure, you’re better off rewatching an old Disney classic and experiencing the magic where it still lives.
Bye Sweet Carole might still have had a chance to become a cult classic—but only if it had been released some twenty years ago. It is an archaic, poorly designed game with a chaotic and inconsistent plot that doesn't know which direction it wants to take. As a result, the whole thing feels like unstable, meaningless gibberish. I didn't even feel bored during the game. I just wanted to get to the end as quickly as possible. The only elements that deserve praise are the good music, the interesting artistic style (because the execution fails) and the exceptionally solid optimization.

In spite of some minor visual issues, Bye Sweet Carole manages to excel in all aspects of design, storytelling and characterisation. Gameplay is forgiving and well-paced without becoming irksome but largely plays second best to the game’s narrative prowess.
Bye Sweet Carole offers us a horror adventure where the candid and the sinister go hand in hand in a beautiful mix seasoned with an interesting story, but which suffers from some shortcomings derived from its abrupt control.

Bye Sweet Carole is a gorgeous and atmospherically dark fairytale that’s let down by some iffy gameplay and technical issues. Its hand-drawn animation and beautiful soundtrack are mesmerising, whilst the bond between Lana and Carole really gives the story emotional weight. I found myself wholly invested in the tale, with it striking the perfect tonal balance of being light-hearted and sinister. Unfortunately, clunky controls, uneven pacing, and recurring technical issues hold it back from greatness, and whilst the puzzles can be clever, the action and stealth sections often feel clumsy and awkward. It’s clear that Bye Sweet Carole has a lot going for it, but it’ll need a few patches (and maybe a few refinements to the gameplay) before it will be able to reach its full potential.
None of the control, sound, animation, or bug issues prevented me from falling in love with Bye Sweet Carole. Its powerful story, engaging puzzles, and beautiful Don Bluth-inspired art were more than enough to make it one of my favorite games of 2025.

If Bye Sweet Carole has one thing going for it, it's absolutely going to be the classic 80's Disney vibe that guarantees some beautiful cutscenes. Unfortunately, that's where the fairytale ends for Little Sewing Machine's horror-esque puzzle platformer, in which frustrating controls, progress limiting bugs and poor audio dampen the overall experience to the point where you might lose interest before the clock strikes twelve. A lot of these issues are fortunately solvable, but for now, Bye Sweet Carole is a rabbit hole I'd rather avoid.

Some of the worst gameplay, puzzles, design, and movement I've ever encountered ruin anything the beautiful classic Disney visuals offer. Bye Sweet Carole is not worth your time.
The hand-drawn animations are beautiful, and the voice acting is excellent. The gameplay, on the other hand, is simple and sometimes frustrating.

Bye Sweet Carole ultimately leaves me disappointed. It had so much potential to be a modern classic but fumbled the writing so hard in the second half that it only made me laugh. The gameplay is at times interesting and intense but often feels unpolished and clunky. It is a truly beautiful looking game with an amazing soundtrack. However, visuals and music alone aren't enough to carry a game. It truly saddens me that I can't recommend it, because I genuinely wanted to love this game that reminded me of my favorite childhood movies.
Bye Sweet Carole is a rare independent game that blends creative gameplay, a deep story, and beautiful graphics into a single experience. Its charm comes from the way it’s balanced: a world that seems innocent but is actually very dark.
Bye Sweet Carole is an incredible work of art and animation, one worth experiencing on its artistic merits alone. As a game, however, it leaves much to be desired, failing to innovate with its shallowest of mechanics. It is a game that plays slow when it plays at all and likely would have done better as a film.
Bye Sweet Carole is a point-and-click game with hints of combat, simple puzzles and old-fashioned gameplay. We really liked the character and environment designs, as well as the audio, but that's not enough to make a good video game. Fortunately, it's the right length and can be completed in a few hours without too much hassle.

Bye Sweet Carole is a story about loneliness, letting go, and freedom, presented as a tragic horror tale. It’s not perfect, and there are a few things I would have changed, but its puzzles and, above all, its classic film aesthetic make it feel like a fresh experience that’s absolutely worth playing.

I know that I definitely presented a veritable list of hiccups with Bye Sweet Carole. But ultimately, they didn’t take me away fully from what I wanted: a good story. I am not one for crying (not a masculinity thing, I just don’t cry too much) but I did find myself getting a little choked up at the end of the game. Bye Sweet Carole will provide you with the gamut of emotions, from stress and discomfort, to happiness, to joy, and to outright sadness. You’ll panic when getting chased by a raging bunny with a meat mallet. You’ll laugh when you hear some of the lines from Baesie. And maybe you’ll cry when you see the resolution of Lana’s journey. Bye Sweet Carole offers this all in a neat little puzzle-game package.
Bye Sweet Carole is a charming 2D adventure with a deeply beautiful story, creative puzzles, and stunning art style that make it an experience that you'll remember long after the credits roll.
