Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection Reviews
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is a not just massive collection of games, but a historic gallery of days past! This is ultimately one of the best video game collections I have seen created. With unlocked secrets, new behind-the-scenes footage, twenty three playable games, and more.
Digital Eclipse, again, did what it does best, by combining great production, a profound interactive timeline and a greatly curated set of Mortal Kombat games. It’s a near triple-flawless victory. Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection celebrates every era of the series with the same punch and personality that made it legendary, blending gameplay and documentary storytelling into one cohesive experience. If Digital Eclipse can patch in the few missing ports and expand on Mortal Kombat 4 (maybe even add Mortal Kombat Gold) this could easily become the first collection of its kind worthy of a perfect 10 out of 10.
Filled to the brim with material, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection takes fans through the series’ bloody history in another one of Digital Eclipse’s “game docs”.
The sheer number of games included in tandem with their now trademark storytelling approach makes this an easy recommend for me. While not every game here is a winner, the documentary portion once again steals the show.
In the state that the game currently sits, it is a hard justification to dive into if you already own the titles on other systems. But if you are a newer fan or want to enjoy it on modern systems, it’s the best option.
Whether you’re a longtime fan of Mortal Kombat, or you are just getting into the series via its modern versions, Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection is a great way to experience the series’ formative era on modern platforms. It isn’t a complete collection, but it does hit all the landmark titles of the series’ growing phase.
For veterans, it is a trip down memory lane that feels as fierce and satisfying as ever. For newcomers, it is a history lesson in what made Mortal Kombat a cultural phenomenon. The Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection is the ultimate celebration of a fighting game icon. It captures the essence of what made Mortal Kombat revolutionary while giving players the tools to appreciate its history, artistry, and cultural impact.
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is more than just a collection of games; it's a tribute to one of the most important gaming brands of all time. This collection preserves Mortal Kombat's history, gameplay, and culture in great detail. It includes the arcade originals, rare ports, and experimental spin-offs.
Digital Eclipse has done it yet again. Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is a fantastic compilation of the earlier years of the seminal franchise, not only featuring yet another high-quality documentary for fans to enjoy, but also featuring remastered and revamped ports of almost all of the Mortal Kombat games released in the nineties. Sure, it includes crap like Mortal Kombat Advance and Special Forces, but if you’re to preserve the history of franchise, you gotta give the bad games in the franchise the same kind of treatment. It’s just a delight for fans and gaming historians alike.
Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection is worthwhile, especially for those who have followed the franchise since the arcades or for those who want to learn about its origins. It's a package packed with content, nostalgia, and gaming history, and it deserves a place in any fighting game fan's library.

All Mortal Kombat fans, those who feel nostalgia or curiosity about the series, and those looking to study it MUST experience this fantastic collection. Digital Eclipse continues to demonstrate that they are not only masters at reviving classics, but that true video game preservation requires a wealth of documentary context, which they are willing to provide.

Revisiting the original trilogy is still a blast, especially online, despite many other collections already exploring those games. Padding out the title count with many ports of the same goes is a bit futile, but a good exercise in game preservation.
Online qualms aside, the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is a true love letter to the iconic fighting game franchise.
At the bare minimum, at least these venerable classics (particularly the arcade versions of MK1-4 as well as Mortal Kombat Trilogy & Mythologies) finally got well emulated re-releases. But there are things that probably should have been here at launch that are missing (like online private rooms/matches), and quality of life things that could be better (having to hold a button for 1.5 seconds to pause, lack of visual filter options, etc.). If you absolutely are a Mortal Kombat die hard, and you want easy access to play these games on modern consoles, or don’t mind only playing random online matches, this collection is for you. Otherwise, you may want to wait for the promised update and/or a sale before jumping in.
The Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is another strong collection from Digital Eclipse, despite some strange missteps. The included games and ports range in quality, but they’re presented with the excellence we’ve come to expect from the devs. The online is frustratingly limited at launch, but the bonus content and various available ports make this worth checking out if you have any interest in the series’s early days.
