I'm having a blast with the skills and directional blocking. The time limit doesn't rush me, but the meaningful day-and-night-cycle enriches the quests. And when I think I know what to expect in the open world, The Blood of Dawnwalker uses it's nonlinear structure for great surprises.

The Blood of Dawnwalker's story kept me captivated, but it was the world and its characters that made me reluctant to put the controller down.

This world doesn’t want you to live in it, but instead, the compelling nature of it makes for another playthrough after beating the main story. It’s an outstanding victory for Rebel Wolves as it's an incredible first outing for them. The Blood of Dawnwalker is a day 1 purchase for any gamer out there.

Devs, Rebel Wolves take the typical RPG formula and infuse their own unique take on a vampire game into a dark fantasy that stands on its own. I can see The Blood of Dawnwalker enduring the test of time, and I’m keen to see where Rebel Wolves take players next.

CD Projekt Red alumni create a familiar dark fantasy adventure, but one with bold and provocative ideas of its own, that's mostly, enormously successful.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is an impressive, bloody cocktail of interesting ideas and well-written characters, making it one of this year’s best open-world RPGs.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is a resolutely miserable horror RPG with some great ideas of its own, though it doesn't always have the courage to follow them through.

For a game I wasn’t entirely sure about at first, I’m happy to be walking away with a new addition to my lineup of favorite RPGs, and one that I’d love to see influence the genre.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is an incredibly ambitious, deeply interesting first game from Rebel Wolves. Not every good idea lands and not every envelope is pushed as far as it could be, but the potential of the game is vast, and there’s a huge amount to lean into and love.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is a dark, brilliantly written vampire RPG with a superb prologue, a memorable cast and inventive powers. It's dragged down at times by repetitive combat, a rough performance, and an insipid lead. A flawed, fascinating debut with cult classic written all over it - one that needs some post-launch patches, but kept me hooked regardless. $69 at Walmart $69 at Walmart $69.99 at Amazon Check Best Buy

Even so, I think the project's scope should have been much better measured; with a smaller scale, the team could surely have delivered a more solid experience , because even with all this, there are very enjoyable aspects. I think The Blood of Dawnwalker always dreamed of being immortal, but vampirism inevitably comes at a price.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is an ambitious project that occasionally wears both the best and worst aspects of its inspirations on its sleeve. Where it shines is in allowing players to make their own choices and learn from their own mistakes. It’s incredible fun to play in a world where the clock is ever-ticking, and the results of our actions and words have real consequences not just for us but for those around us.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is excellent, if not quite successful in everything it tries. It's fun to teleport around in a cloud of smoke and bats or walk on ceilings, but the story is also fantastic. It's probably even darker and grimmer than you're expecting, and it gripped me throughout and was complimented by equally fascinating side quest stories that I had to choose between. If you like RPGs, vampires, or great stories, you won't want to miss The Blood of Dawnwalker.

The Blood of Dawnwalker has strong ideas and a compelling story, but repetitive design, uneven systems, and constant jank hold it back.

The Blood of the Dawnwalker is the rare game created by a studio of decorated ex-AAA veterans that actually gets very near to its original inspiration. With an intriguing setting, a one-of-a-kind narrative sandbox approach, fantastic writing, and solid combat, this may well be the first installment in an epic saga that will accompany gamers for decades to come.

While The Blood of Dawnwalker is a competent enough action RPG, it also leaves something to be desired: the characters are well written and well acted, but its roleplay elements feel weaker than they might look at first glance; and the combat is snappy, but enemy variety is extremely poor; the game is visually pleasant and well optimized at 1080p, but gameplay is capped at 60 fps and cutscenes at 30. It did leave me wanting for a sequel, though.

Supported by sharp combat, deep day-night synergy, a fantastic score, and a lived-in world, the game delivers on its ambitious promises. Minor hiccups like stiff facial animations or initial calendar anxiety do nothing to diminish what Rebel Wolves has achieved here. The Blood of Dawnwalker isn't just an outstanding RPG; it is a landmark statement in game design that proves restraint, atmosphere, and meaningful player agency beat mindless scale every single time. An absolute, brilliantly executed dark fantasy masterpiece.

According to Rebel Wolves, The Blood of Dawnwalker is just the first instalment in a planned series. And honestly, that's what it feels like: a starting point.Fans of vampire fiction or choice-driven RPGs should still gel with Dawnwalker based on the strength of its world building, characters, and deliciously dark tones. But you'll need to stomach some of the most serviceable, yet frustratingly stunted gameplay I've encountered in quite some time.

Rebel Wolves’ debut game The Blood of Dawnwalker is a triumphant achievement in the art of telling rich, raw, human stories set with a more fantastical backdrop.

The final assessment of our experience with The Blood of Dawnwalker is undoubtedly positive. Aside from a few flaws in the gameplay systems (likely due to the development team's relative immaturity), the game is easily one of the best action RPGs currently available, thanks in part to a masterfully written story and superb worldbuilding. The only disappointment is a few glitches in the navigation systems, which ultimately dilute the sense of immersion in the universe created by Rebel Wolves, but Coen's adventure in this dark fantasy world bodes well for the developers' future.
