Rebel Wolves delivers a dark fantasy RPG that can hold its own against its illustrious cousin and is a firstborn that we hope will produce other gems in the same vein in the future.

Rebel Wolves' debut project is an instant classic, and one of the best RPGs of 2026
It's clear from the off that there's a strong RPG pedigree at work in The Blood of Dawnwalker. The work of Rebel Wolves, a studio founded by forme...
The Blood of Dawnwalker from developer Rebel Wolves is a great starting point for what could become a bigger series. It delivers a strong story, entertaining gameplay elements, and plenty of quests to keep the journey going.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is a masterful new RPG from key developers behind The Witcher 3, kicking off a bold new series that has remarkable potential.
Some things are worth your time.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is a fascinating action-RPG, where every choice to save Coen's family feels rightly consequential.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is an incredible RPG that sinks its fangs into you from the moment you start playing, signalling an incredibly strong start for Rebel Wolves. Choices feel meaningful, combat is satisfying, and the time system makes you stop and think about just what you're doing when you play games. While some quests drag and there were some technical hiccups along the way, nothing made me want to stop playing this adventure that trades breadth for depth. As such, The Blood of Dawnwalker is easily one of my favourite RPGs in years and well worth a taste.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is an excellent dark fantasy RPG that combines meaningful choices, a clever time-management system and satisfying combat with a world that constantly encourages another playthrough. Rebel Wolves wears its Witcher 3 influence proudly, but this is a game with a strong identity of its own.
The Blood of Dawnwalker from Rebel Wolves is a grim RPG which, at its best, rivals The Witcher 3 story-wise. The game charms with an excellent prologue, a grounded, down-to-earth atmosphere, mature choices in shades of grey, and memorable characters. Unfortunately, after a brilliant start, the experience suffers due to repetitive, Ubisoft-style open-world activities that you have to plough through to uncover the narrative treasures. It is an ambitious and successful, albeit uneven, title – a must-play for fans of atmospheric games who are willing to overlook some of the rough edges typical of a debut title.

Join me and stay up until near-dawn playing The Blood of Dawn Walker. It was a brilliant time that tapped into my nostalgic Skyrim and Witcher 3 itch, whilst also offering novel advances on combat mechanics, character progression and the gravity of quest choices. Strongly recommend.
Rebel Wolves' story-driven RPG is clearly built on the role-playing ethos established by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but it's the breadth and depth of original ideas at play that make the game stand on its own merits.
Most Western RPGs have been overshadowed this year by an incredible run of JRPGs, both those already released and several more looming on the horizon in the coming months. Against that backdrop, The Blood of Dawnwalker might genuinely be one of the best games 2026 has to offer. It has it all and then some, constantly surprising with consummate professionalism and polish.
The Blood of Dawnwalker, despite it shortcomings, managed to meet a significant portion of my expectations. The game boasts notable strengths in world-building, atmosphere, music, character development, and combat system design, making it especially appealing to those who have long awaited a dark, medieval-themed RPG. On the other hand, one cannot overlook its technical issues, stiff animations, certain visual weaknesses, and the less-than-ideal implementation of the time-limit system. Rebel Wolves' effort to craft a game that draws from the legacy of The Witcher 3 without merely copying it is commendable. In many ways, The Blood of Dawnwalker proves that there is still room for a story-driven, atmospheric, and engaging RPG,and if you approach it with the expectations of an AA title, it just might become one of the more beloved and distinctive experiences the genre has to offer.

The Blood of Dawnwalker bears all the hallmarks of a project crafted by brilliance, particularly through its top-tier storytelling and tight combat mechanics. Yet while its core identity as an Action RPG is rock-solid, the surrounding package lacks the high-end production polish needed to elevate it further. It’s an undeniable achievement, but one constantly shadowed by the obvious strain of a limited budget and workforce.

While The Blood of Dawnwalker and its dark fantasy vampire setting is well worth exploring, best wait for a few patches before exploring its vast open world.
The narrative might be subservient to the mechanics, and not as thematically evocative as I might like, but excellent writing does combine with quality, well-executed mechanics to give us the equivalent of a pulp fantasy page-turner, and like the stories of dark pulp fantasy writer, Robert E. Howard, it’s really (really) difficult to put down.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is the kind of ambitious RPG that invites you to lose yourself in its world, where your choices play a major role in shaping the story and allow you to experience it on your own terms. This freedom is the game’s biggest strength, while its deep RPG mechanics and engaging combat complement the experience nicely. Despite some shortcomings, Dawnwalker ultimately delivers a satisfying and memorable experience. With plenty of replay value and different paths to explore, it’s a game you can return to and experience in a whole new way. If you’re a fan of open-world RPGs with deep stories and meaningful choices, The Blood of Dawnwalker is a journey worth taking.
