Luna Abyss is half bullet-hell FPS, half platformer and all Heavy Metal Euro-sci-fi weirdness.

Luna Abyss is a great first-person shooter that shines in its Bullet Hell aspects. While it never reaches the heights of the best of the genre, the combat feels fluid, and the need to switch between weapons to defeat certain enemies adds a layer of strategy that prevents gameplay from going stale.

Luna Abyss struggles with crafting consistently rewarding gameplay moments, but even the dullest of shooting sections is worth getting through in order to inch further into the wonderfully weird world and unforgettable story of this game.

Luna Abyss is a AA shooter that holds its own against some of the elite of the genre. Its enticing and ominous sci-fi world is a delight to look at artistically, even if its muddy graphics let it down on closer inspection. Its story is fine, but a slick sense of progression keeps its action and platforming interesting from start to finish.

Luna Abyss is more than the sum of its parts, with individual pieces that will all feel familiar, so much so that you've likely played a dozen games just like it. But it's standout character design, environmental storytelling, performances, writing, level design, first-person shooting combat and 3D platforming that ends before it has a chance to outstay its welcome make it a must-play for single-player shooter fans.

First-person bullet hell shooters aren’t all that common, so Luna Abyss immediately stands out as something fresh. It’s a polished and confident game overall, and it doesn’t try to layer on too many systems or mechanics.

A stylish, systems-driven sci-fi action game that blends intense combat, strong traversal mechanics and atmospheric world design into a cohesive whole. Held back slightly by combat readability issues and occasional visual softness, but Luna Abyss still delivers a highly engaging experience overall.

Luna Abyss crafts a distinctly bizarre, moody universe using the framework of a first-person shooter. Through all its familiar elements it blends genres in delightful and surprising ways, constantly surpassing expectations.

Far from offering the best bullet hell or first-person shooter experience, Luna Abyss instead sticks to its own quirky formula, stubbornly so at times, and mostly succeeds.

Luna Abyss isn't the nonstop adrenaline rush that its bullet hell label might lead some people to expect. Instead, it's a carefully paced blend of exploration, platforming, storytelling, and combat wrapped inside one of the most atmospheric worlds I've explored in recent memory. A normal playthrough will likely take around ten hours, with completionists spending considerably longer uncovering every secret and collectible hidden throughout the Abyss. There are a few areas where I would have liked to see the game push itself further, particularly with some of its late game platforming ideas and certain story developments, but these are relatively minor complaints in an otherwise excellent package. If the premise interests you even a little, it's absolutely worth descending into the Abyss to see what secrets are waiting below.

Luna Abyss introduces you to a dark and intriguing world where you complete tasks for someone called the All-Father to reduce your prison sentence. What follows is an adventure that combines first-person platforming and bullet-hell combat, and it holds your attention throughout – despite some minor issues along the way.

Luna Abyss is not an AAA title, nor does it try to be. It’s an indie delight, however, and it manages to seamlessly blend bullet hell gameplay with an FPS.

A game that gives arcade FPS fans exactly what they expect from the gameplay side, and far more than they’d expect from the story side.

As a bullet hell first-person shooter, Luna Abyss might not achieve its full potential, but it accomplishes everything it sets out to do well enough. A haunting world and an evasive combat dance results in one of the most creatively bold shooters in recent years.

Aside from some pacing issues and an art direction that hampers visibility during exploration segments, Luna Abyss is an interesting first-person action game.

Luna Abyss is a remarkably brave debut that understands that intense bullet-hell action means nothing without a world worth fighting for. While its limited four-weapon arsenal and rigid shield mechanics occasionally drag down the combat, the game heavily compensates with an incredibly oppressive atmosphere, superb sound design, and a genuine narrative mystique that keeps you hooked from the first minute. It carries the cracks of a debut, but it speaks with the voice of a seasoned veteran.
