Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is astounding, but does suffer a bit when it comes to the game’s lacking boss encounters, and some moments where the game wears out its welcome in the last few hours. Still, Asobo is a remarkable flexible studio that clearly knows how to produce real emotion out of its characters and stories in ways that defy the genre.

Die-hard fans of the A Plague Tale franchise might need some time to get used to its new gameplay direction, but once they do, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy becomes an exciting new chapter for the series. It retains the franchise's strong storytelling, exploration, puzzle-solving, and atmospheric world design while introducing faster, more action-focused combat. Despite some technical issues with character clipping, camera behavior, and environmental collision, its gorgeous visuals, excellent soundtrack, and strong accessibility options make it easy to recommend. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a bold new direction that successfully builds upon the franchise's foundation while offering something fresh for both returning fans and newcomers.

While Amicia and Hugo de Rune got closer to my heart than Sophia, gameplaywise I liked the prequel even more. The versatile sword fights got oomph and as adventure fan the creative puzzles are right up my alley.
