EA SPORTS FC 27 manages to overhaul the series' fundamental framework with a more detailed transfer system, defensive dynamics that leave control in the player's hands, and the new open-world-themed "The Grounds" mode. Despite a few ideas that haven't fully matured and the ongoing, chronic menu issues, it delivers a notable step forward from last year's game, particularly for those looking for an up-to-date Ultimate Team experience.

EA SPORTS FC 27 may be the best-feeling EA FC game on the pitch in recent years. Putting defending back in the player’s hands, the small but effective improvements to attacking, and the transfer system in Career Mode are all genuinely good moves. However, despite being the biggest new addition this year, The Grounds feels like an underdeveloped mode that lacks substance.

Although it’s commendable that Electronic Arts is finally trying something truly new with EA Sports FC 27 by introducing The Grounds, one has to conclude that it doesn’t quite come together. That “been there, done that” feeling sets in fast, and the sometimes (unnecessarily) long wait times don’t help matters.

While EA Sports FC 27 is great to play on the pitch, there aren't quite enough impactful changes overall, with The Grounds being less impressive than expected.

FC 27 offers significant improvements in some areas while maintaining the series core structure. While innovations like the Manager Mode and The Grounds aim to add different experiences to the game, there isn’t a major change in the core gameplay. Nevertheless, touches such as the new transfer system, improved through passes, and the addition of servers in Turkey are positive. Ultimately, FC 27 presents itself not as a game that completely overhauls the series, but rather as a title that seeks to refine the existing structure.

FC 27 represents yet another attempt by EA Sports to revitalise the series’ image through the new ‘The Grounds’ mode. The gameplay and visual style remain very similar to last year’s instalment – it is a game that builds on its predecessor – but this new 3D social space could lay the foundations for a significant transformation of the series.

EA Sports FC 27 takes a welcome step toward more manual and rewarding football, giving players greater responsibility on both sides of the pitch. Goalkeeper issues, uneven pacing and familiar monetization keep a promising entry from reaching the top tier.

We had a fantastic summer of World Cup action, and after a short break, the beautiful game is back. With a brand new season, my team, Manchester United still performing terribly; it's almost like nothing has changed. That said, it's part of life I can't live without, and one window I always look forward to is the annual release of the most popular football game in existence. EA SPORTS FC 27 has finally dropped onto Xbox Series X/S and even the trusty old Xbox One. Also available to players on Playstation 4/5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, with full cross-play functionality. Now, I know many always say the same thing: it's the same game every single year, and on the surface it may come across that way. However, this couldn't be further from the truth, and there have been some fruitful additions and changes in comparison to the previous couple of years. With 21,000+ licensed players, 800+ clubs and national squads, 140+ stadiums and 35+ fully licensed leagues, it just grows bigger every time.

FC 27 feels like a giant step forward and a frustrating step back all at once. Behind the headlines of Career Mode overhauls and new social spaces lies an experience bogged down by clunky design choices and repetitive bugs. It has the foundational ideas to be a turning point for the franchise, but until EA addresses the glaring lack of polish, fans are left waiting for the game to live up to its real potential.

Beyond my expectations, EA Sports FC 27 feels like a game that has some ambition behind it, but it still has its own shortcomings. With continuous updates catered towards performance, I think EA can manage to make FC 27 a major upgrade over its predecessors.

EA Sports FC 27 delivers meaningful gameplay and Career Mode improvements, while The Grounds adds a fresh social experience beyond Ultimate Team. Although some longstanding AI, animation, and match consistency issues remain, the new additions make FC 27 feel like more than a routine annual update.

Despite the presence of some good additions, such as The Grounds mode and several gameplay improvements, EA FC 27 still suffers from many of the same issues as previous installments, without offering any major leap that clearly sets it apart from its predecessor. Nevertheless, it is undoubtedly a game you can spend hundreds of hours playing if you are a fan of the series.

EA FC 27, unfortunately, turned out to be a disappointing game this year, despite my high hopes. However, despite all these negative opinions, I think the series is heading in the right direction.

EA Sports FC 27 feels like one of the more meaningful upgrades to the series in recent times. The Grounds brings a fresh social experience, Career Mode finally has some real depth, and the more manual gameplay makes matches feel rewarding once everything clicks. It still has a few rough edges, but as a football fan, EA Sports FC 27 delivers one of the most complete and authentic football experiences.

EA Sports FC 27 doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it does refine the football and expand the social side of the experience, while wanting to keep you engaged and spending, for as long as possible.

EA SPORTS FC 27 is a solid entry, and one that is surprisingly bug-free. The gameplay changes are welcome, but it is ultimately a very iterative edition to Electronic Arts’ long-running football series. It’s still plenty fun and plenty rage-inducing, but you can’t go wrong with this year’s entry. ∎

EA Sports FC 27 delivers its best performance in single-player modes, courtesy of Authentic Gameplay 2.0 simulation and a revamped Career Mode. However, the negligible impact of The Grounds as a marquee feature alongside the fatigue of Ultimate Team tarnish the overall package. A strong title on the pitch, but one that highlights the pressing need for a breather in its annual release cycle.

EA Sports FC 27 doesn't completely rebuild the series. Instead, it takes the existing formula and makes several adjustments that gradually become more noticeable the longer you play. For a yearly football game, that may not sound dramatic, but these changes can make a difference once you're controlling the players rather than reading about the features.
