EA Sports FC 27 resembles contemporary football: huge, spectacular, and full of contradictions. On the pitch, it's more entertaining than it has been in years, Career Mode finds new momentum, FUT continues to ask too much, and The Grounds, on the other hand, is a cardboard city that (perhaps) no one wanted.

FC 27 is the slightly different annual entry compared to previous releases, differing through its additions to the Career Mode, exciting and realistic changes, the addition of the enjoyable The Grounds mode, and some adjustments to the most popular Ultimate Team mode. However, these were not enough for it to be considered a fully new and different release, as the game still uses the same assets present since previous entries, without changing even the graphics, celebration cutscenes, or referee animations. It also suffered from some technical issues and the persistence of direct pay-to-win mechanics.

EA Sports FC 27 is indeed bringing some real changes this year. The Grounds is a completely new open world packed with arcade-style fun and alternative gameplay options. Ultimate Team is once again fully supported and has an extra weapon in the form of the UT Gallery. Career mode features a revamped transfer system that works well. In terms of gameplay, you have more defensive options than ever before. A few frustrating bugs remain. Online play isn’t always fair and can still be a bit of a nightmare at times. The Grounds is still in its infancy but has potential. Long live the beautiful game.

EA SPORTS FC 27 is at its best when it stops treating football as just a competition and starts treating it as a culture. The Grounds is the clearest example of that, bringing together casual Kickabouts, competitive football, club building, mentorship, and different football traditions into one shared space. Combined with a more responsive gameplay system and deeper progression across the major modes, FC 27 feels like a substantial step forward for the series.

EA SPORTS FC 27 is a really solid sports game with numerous gameplay additions, new modes, and improvements for single-player and multiplayer-oriented gamers alike. However, the game's technical drawbacks on Switch 2 and similarities with past releases in the series will make it feel like an incremental upgrade for returning players.

Driven by rewarding manual mechanics and a deep Career Mode, EA SPORTS FC 27 excels where it counts most, even if extra modes don't quite hold up their end.

The separation between Authentic and Competitive modes was also an excellent decision. For me, it's perhaps one of the greatest qualities of this edition. Authentic offers slower, heavier, and more imperfect football, with difficult ball control, less explosive players, and more space for build-up play. It feels like a real attempt at simulation, something I really enjoy. Competitive, on the other hand, maintains what Ultimate Team needs to be for its audience: fast, direct, and more arcade-like. They are such different experiences that, at times, they feel like two separate games.

EA Sports FC 27 makes meaningful progress with more deliberate football, an improved Career Mode, and the promising arrival of The Grounds, though familiar frustrations and a conservative Ultimate Team keep it from reaching greater heights.

Most of EA Sports FC 27’s improvements feel noticeable and, at certain points, warranted, but its biggest swings, like The Grounds, for example, only highlight the fact that there’s more work to be done.

EA SPORTS FC 27 isn’t a revolution, and that’s probably not what the developers were aiming for this year. On the field, the gameplay remains very similar to what we’re already familiar with, with a few interesting tweaks that subtly enhance the experience. The revamped transfer market makes the Manager career mode much more believable, the streamlined DCE removes some of the most repetitive tasks from Ultimate Team, and The Grounds finally introduces a new social space that could become very interesting if it continues to be refined. This new installment is therefore quite easy to recommend to fans of the franchise.

EA Sports FC 27 offers one of the series’ most complete experiences, with more content, improvements to Career Mode, new features in Ultimate Team, and the debut of The Grounds. Attacking gameplay feels more fluid and rewarding, but heavily manual defending and inconsistencies in the AI still affect the overall balance. It is a meaningful step forward for the franchise, even if some areas still require refinement over the course of the season.

For regular users, the improvement is real. For those who were expecting a radical transformation, they will have to wait a little longer.

EA Sports FC 27 is a game that introduces some improvements and even attempts to innovate in certain areas, but it seems to do things by halves, leaving the impression of an incomplete experience that fails to reach its full potential.

FC 27 puts the player back in charge. With auto-tackles gone and AI defenders hanging back, tackling, passing and corners are down to you, and mistakes get punished fast. Career Mode finally has a transfer market worth playing with, Ultimate Team adds the FUT Album and offline Live Events, and The Grounds is fun with friends, even if the crowds thinned out after the first few days. Goalkeepers are still the weak link, and the menus and a handful of bugs need work, but it might well be one of the better EA Sports FC games so far.

EA Sports FC 27 brings solid improvements to Career Mode and defending, but its long‑standing issues remain, and The Grounds feels more like a test than a true social space for players.

EA Sports FC 27 is a solid football game when it comes to the action on the pitch itself. The revamped defensive system demands more input from the player, ball control feels more precise and the Manager Career mode offers greater depth. Unfortunately, The Grounds turns out to be a rather underwhelming addition to an already extensive selection of modes, while also introducing a concerning new level of monetization. Those hoping for meaningful innovations should probably skip this year’s entry. For everyone else, however, it still delivers the familiar, solid overall package.

EA FC 27 enhances offensive movement and demands more control in marking, making adaptation to competitive play more difficult for casual players.

FC 27 has made us want to keep playing more than the previous installment. Greater freedom on the pitch and more satisfying set-piece mechanics deserve some of the credit, but "The Grounds" is, for our money, the star of this release. Playing street-style matches, Rush, and Clubs in a shared space with friends has been more fun for me than other modes in the past. The game is moving in a very interesting direction; we just hope for a bit more attention to technical detail and, of course, more licenses and venues from Latin America.

EA SPORTS FC 27 improves the core football with slower, more manual gameplay and gives Career Mode meaningful depth. Ultimate Team gets useful additions, while The Grounds feels less convincing, especially for solo players.
