Fans of the brutal sport will find a decent and enjoyable game if they look hard enough. An excellent stand-up game is marred by a weak ground game. There's little little of substance beyond the polish, leaving THQ's UFC 3 as an undisputedly better game.

Some lag here and there, but once you connect to a fight against another UFC addict, there's nothing like it.

As this is the first game for a new set of consoles and with a new development team, growing pains are expected. We just didn't expect them to revolve around concepts previously implemented in older titles. At its core though, EA Sports UFC is a great first step for the franchise. We just hope that over the course of development for the follow-up, many of these missteps are corrected.

EA Sports has created a visually stunning, impressively detailed MMA game featuring most of the biggest figures in the sport. However, the complex controls and mechanical feel can make it a difficult game for outsiders, and you'll face a steep learning curve before you get much satisfaction out of it.

All in all EA Sports UFC is a great fighting game that embodies the strategy and fighting prowess needed to be an ultimate fighter. The game does a great job making each punch, kick, takedown and submission feel as real as it gets without having to step into a real Octagon. This is a must have for any MMA or UFC fan and a must try for anyone who really wants to learn the sport and understand what it is all about.

UFC is not as refined as an experience it could be and compared to other sports franchises it lacks in the depth department; however, there is no question EA Sports UFC game is fun to play and overall is a satisfying fighter.

EA Sports UFC doesn't cater to button mashers, so be wary if you're not eager to learn an overly-complex control scheme. More technical gamers will be able to appreciate the gameplay to a greater extent, but the laggy servers make even this an exercise in frustration.

EA Sports UFC is absolutely amazing to see in motion. It is a lot of fun to play, too, assuming you have some friends along for the ride. Now, if the new development team can flesh out the experience with the additional modes and content fans loved in the previous release under THQ, EA could have another blockbuster sports franchise on their hands.

EA SPORTS UFC has what UFC fans want--detailed, accurate fighting--but it leaves out what gamers want: options. UFC features some of the best visuals around, but the overall limitations leave this title best-suited for die-hard fans.

With a career mode that's well executed and a presentation style that's almost without fault, EA Sports UFC comes out swinging on Sony's newest console. Sadly, the title's complicated controls make this a difficult title to pick up and play, but with the groundwork well laid, this new challenger hints at plenty of promise for the future.

Undoubtedly, there's enormous potential for a UFC series that will in the future become a staple part of the EA Sports family. A few tweaks are needed, but things are on the right track.

It was obviously EA and UFC's goal to give fans of the sport a video game franchise that encapsulated all their was to love about it. EA Sports UFC is absolutely that, even if all aspects of the sport are not adapted equally.

In the end, EA Sports UFC is still a winner, but by split decision. Some of the omissions like cut and leg stoppages, and the odd bug here and there, make for a debut that is certainly better than EA Sports MMA. Here's the hitch though – somehow despite itself the game is ridiculously fun. Although very ambitious, this title still could have used a little more time in the gym. I look forward to the sequel though – the second fight is almost always better than the first.

EA Sports UFC has some solid bones to begin with, but the series is going to have to do much more to win over casual sports fans if it wants to be a Madden-like success.

EA Sports UFC could have been great, but thanks to a lack of modes and customisation options, it's simply ok.

EA Sports UFC wouldn't be bad for a first shot at the MMA genre. But EA had already dipped their toe into the genre, and seem to have done little to move on from there. The striking is very satisfying, and the new submission system is interesting and creates a more level playing field than in the past, but the game is let down by poor wrestling and transition mechanics. There's enough here to show that a second UFC title from EA is likely to be a great game, but this one just needed a bit more time in the gym.
