MachineGames have, again, gone beyond the scope of what most people would come to expect from a game with the Wolfenstein tag on it.

A great prequel to last year's surprise hit.

If The New Order was up your alley, The Old Blood will be, too. But here, it's all about murdering nazis and zombie nazis, with less of the reflection.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood doesn't reinvent the franchise or really stray from what made The New Order a success but taking this abbreviated journey with B.J. Blazkowicz put a smile on my face from beginning to end.

Coming in at only $19.99, there's plenty of content and story here to make a return to Wolfenstein worth a purchase.

With myriad nods to Wolfenstein's past, The Old Blood captures the essence of the series, but does less than The New Order to advance it

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is a production that should be rewarded. It's undoubtedly a more of the same than The New Order, but given the quality of the original game it would be really silly to miss a new adventure of this magnitude given the really low price tag. In the pack you will find exciting gameplay, a good level of challenge and great settings, all elements that make this expansion a must have for shooter lovers.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood should have more alternate paths and secret areas to uncover. However, both the stealth action and shooting gameplay are top-notch and the levels are fun to explore. With so many modern shooters available, now is a good time for game developers to reintroduce familiar conflicts of the past.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood has its fair share of problems – but it's still worth playing. With an enormous amount of content available for such a slender sum, fans of The New Order shouldn't hesitate when it comes to this alternate history treat.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood is very much an expansion of its fun, entertaining predecessor, but doesn't quite pack the same emotional clout. Still, a great FPS worthy of your attention.

For a standalone DLC, I am impressed. MachineGames took the best parts of The New Order and gave us the moments leading up to its opening. While The Old Blood could have definitely either turned up the grindhouse factor in part two, or stayed more true to part one, it still had incredibly fun combat and satisfying Nazi killing. By itself, it could feel like it was lacking something, specifically in the character and story department, but Wolfenstein: The Old Blood performs as both a supplemental work for fans of the series and as a vehicle to introduce players to the world and play style of The New Order.

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood doubles down on blood and guts, but in doing so sacrifices some of its heart.

MachineGames hasn't taken a huge step forward with 'Wolfenstein: The Old Blood,' but nor have they taken any steps backwards. It is a solid expansion, adding more to the new 'Wolfenstein' formula without drastically changing it. Fans of last year's game will find a lot to like, as will FPS players who somehow missed it.

If you're not a fan of the "Wolfenstein" series or haven't played the slew of games that have graced home consoles since the days of the Super Nintendo, "Wolfenstein: The Old Blood," thanks to an awesome noir story, plenty of blood, a great soundtrack and uber difficulty, is an addictive experience that sets an awesome standard for digitally released first-person shooters on the PlayStation 4.

In Sum: If you liked The New Order, you'll like The Old Blood. If you haven't played either, both are more than worth your time and money. I give the game a BUY on my Buy/Hold/Sell rating scale.

After an extraordinary comeback of the Wolfenstein series last year with The New Order, now Machine Games studio and Bethesda deliver a prequel of the events that happened during the middle of the 1940's decade with the Germans experimenting with technology and soldiers to win the war. B.J. Blazkowicz is back in action to stop the Nazi threat and save the day.

A bloody romp through Castle Wolfenstein and beyond that falters near the end, but is still worth the price of admission.

'Wolfenstein: The Old Blood' succeeds at delivering more of 'The New Order's excellent gunplay, but derivative enemy encounters and the lack of compelling narrative weight it down.
