Dead Rising 4 Reviews

Dead Rising 4 is ranked in the 48th percentile of games scored on OpenCritic.

Dead Rising 4 takes a few steps forward in terms of the gameplay mechanics, but also takes a giant zombie-infected shamble backwards in regards to the narrative elements. Taking away the ticking clock, making the maniacs nothing more than a mere annoyance instead of the stuff of nightmares, and having civilians easily rescued really pulled away from what I liked in the previous games. Dead Rising 4 is fun, but it’s also a little hollow and it’s lost a significant chunk of the series’ soul.

'Dead Rising 4' has deviated too much from its own traditions for me to give it a wholehearted recommendation. It now resembles a typical modern day third-person sandbox game, for what that's worth. To be fair, I have a lot of fun with games like that, and I've been having a lot of fun with this game. But 'Dead Rising' has come and gone, and has been replaced with something a little tamer and more accessible.

Despite a few improvements, Dead Rising 4 falls short in too many areas to earn a recommendation. A passable entry in the zombie slaying franchise that wastes the return of its original hero.

In the end, Dead Rising 4 is a solid game that is an enjoyable experience for series fans and newcomers. The "use anything, make anything" mechanics that have made zombie-smashing so fun are still intact, and some changes only amplify the experience when dealing with the expansive world. While the story is good on its own, Frank's presence provides a nice balance between silly and serious, and the multiplayer also finds a sweet spot. The title has some issues, but they aren't enough to dampen the sheer fun this game provides. DR4 is a worthy pick-up this holiday season.

As you can tell Dead Rising 4 is a flawed experience. Veterans of the series dislike it, a myriad of technical issues (on PC), and a relatively short and lack luster campaign prevents it from being a great game altogether. If, however you can look past its blemishes and just focus on the fun part of the game then you will be rewarded with a giddy smile while getting covered in organic paste. I recommend waiting for a huge sales drop before picking this one up.

Dead Rising 4 brings a lot of varied zombie-slaughtering fun to your living room but it also takes a couple of steps back for the series.

Dead Rising 4 isn’t a challenging game but it’s a blast to play. The single-player story is exciting and encourages you to move forward while the side missions unlock unique weapons for you to use.

Dead Rising 4 doesn't build much farther than it's predecessors, but it lays down a foundation for more games to come. The setting is great for the genre it's in and it helps build up the world around it. It's very fun by yourself and with friends, doesn't matter if you are trying to rack up the highest score, or if you're running zombies over in a tricycle. You'll enjoy the game both ways. There were some points where it didn't shine, being the technical aspects, and there wasn't much of an improvement compared to the other games in the franchise.

Dead Rising 4 is basically Dead Rising 3 with crazier weapons, more zombies to decimate and the grand return of original protagonist Frank West – with gameplay that’s almost unrecognisable to his original tale.

At this point, all that remains of Dead Rising is the name. A once interesting and promising franchise has been neutered, changed for a more palatable creation. Dead Rising 4 could have been something, anything, but instead chooses to be a “cash in” on holiday season and a further diluted formula.

Dead Rising 4 is far removed from its predecessors, but I highly recommend this game, especially those who have been turned off by the time-limited and grind-heavy gameplay of the previous titles for something a bit more free-flowing and tons of fun. Dead Rising 4 simply puts the fun back in fun.

Frank's a likeable protagonist - witty, gruff, and we suspect he has a heart of gold to go with the elixir of eternal life he's clearly been sampling. And, to be frank, Frank deserves a little more polish and a lot more jeopardy than Capcom Vancouver has delivered with Dead Rising 4. Slaying zombies with a variety of ridiculous weapons is as fun as ever, but we hoped for more.

Dead Rising 4 is an average game. The game is a disappointment and the lack of campaign co-op is disappointing.

Dead Rising 4 is a fun, easy to pick up game which can bring you some Christmas joy and laughs, but stops short of offering anything amazing to the series.

Dead Rising 4 is a fantastic game that while not being as hard or demanding as is predecessors, is still a really fun game that opens it up to new audiences and a wider player base.

Dead Rising 4 is a good game. It's not great, and it's not bad—it's just good. Killing zombies is fun, the story isn't bad, and Frank is fun to play as with his sense of humor and "smart-ass but slightly aging journalist" schtick. It's just a bit too easy to really suck you into the gameplay, and the multiplayer is forgettable at best. You'll either love it for Frank's character and killing zombies with new toys, or you'll hate it for getting rid of your favorite features. Either way, it's an important entry in the series for Capcom Vancouver to learn what works and what doesn't.

Dead Rising 4 took all the best parts of its predecessors and added a more sandbox type, open world exploration that is encouraged and expands on its story.

Dead Rising 4 is the game the previous three Dead Rising titles should have been. With no time limit to speak of, players are given free reign to play how they want, when they want, as often as they want. This is perhaps the most liberating and accessible Dead Rising yet, and the series is all the better for it. Fans of Dead Rising should not miss this latest installment.
