NBA 2K14 Reviews
NBA 2K14 on PS4 & Xbox One is not only a great basketball game, it's a showcase for your new console.
On court, this is probably the best-looking launch game on PS4, and a real step forward for the 2K series. The new story mode is novel, but far from perfect.
If you're going to buy an NBA game this year, 2K14 should be your choice
NBA 2K14 uses its incredible visual design to draw you in, and the top-notch action is closer than ever to the real thing.
2K Sports hits the reset button on its NBA franchise while still maintaining the level of quality fans of this series have come to expect.
If you want a game to show off your brand new console then NBA 2K14 is the one to get. Visually the game is stunning, and at times can be mistaken for an actual game of basketball. Everything has received a visual makeover and it sure looks impressive. The gameplay is as solid as ever and is great fun, whilst still being a first class simulation of the sport. The game modes on offer result in a lot of variety and will certainly not leave you wanting more.
NBA 2K14 is a gorgeous looking game, with a vastly improved MyCareer mode and an in depth MyGM mode. MyTeam is something that will take plenty of time to get into and enjoy. However the inclusion of microtransactions and the need for an internet connection have a major impact on how easy it is to recommend this game. Still, it's the best basketball game on the market.
On one hand, NBA 2K14 on PS4 is one of the best looking sports games ever made. On the other, it's a barebones experience when compared to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
NBA 2K14 on the PS4 is a stunning digital facsimile of basketball. The title's visually jaw dropping, technically stunning, and represents a whole different ball game to its PS3 counterpart. The new My Career and My GM campaigns don't always score a slam dunk, but they're engaging enough to dribble your way through, making this is a top option if you're eager to shoot some hoops on Sony's next generation console.
I have never bothered with sports games probably because watching men run around chasing a ball seemed too tiring. That being said this game has opened my eyes to the enjoyment offered by a really well put together game. I actually WANT to go home and play this, something I never thought I'd hear myself say!
The best b-ball simulation is even better on the Xbox One.
NBA 2K14's reference-quality graphics, intricately animated gameplay, and massive time-sinking game modes allows Visual Concepts to posterize the competition.
Thanks to superb gameplay and the best graphics currently released on next-gen, NBA 2K14 is a must-buy game for any sports gamer.
Whoever designed the menu system needs to be benched, and if they're serious about telling a dramatic Hoops story they need to hire a few dozen more voice actors, but everything else sells the sport of basketball like no other game before.
Definitely a must have game if you're a basketball fan!
Sets a strong foundation from which to build on for the rest of the new hardware cycle.
If you're upgrading your console soon you may want to hold off as a next-gen version is due to drop shortly, but if you're into hoops and plan on sticking with your current machine into the new year and beyond, this is a must-buy, even if you already have the previous game in the series. Who knows what the next console generation will bring, with 2K marching triumphantly onwards and EA bringing back NBA Live for the first time in five years, but for now, this is just the best version of the best video game basketball experience you're going to find.
NBA 2K14 is one of the only sports games around that demonstrates an appreciation for the way subtext and narrative contribute to the experience of playing a sport. Like any proper RPG, it builds storylines, around careers, seasons, or single games. It's a peerless experience and an easy recommendation for any basketball fan.
All in all a great addition to one's library, provided you haven't played last year's game. I was a little disappointed with the lack of additions but seeing as 2K Sports and Visual Concepts have probably directed most of their resources towards the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game while still adding some features to the current version, I can give a forgive a few omissions.
There's still room for improvement, but Visual Concepts have created a truly next-gen instalment for this year's iteration of NBA 2K. Everything, from the furrowed lines on LeBron's brow to the engaging back and forth between your MyPlayer and their agent in MyCareer mode, oozes personality like never before. Probably the best sports game on the planet right now.
