Metroid: Samus Returns Reviews
Another era of Metroid is beginning.
Metroid: Samus Returns is a fairly competent game completely neutered by the device it's locked to and lazy design choices.
Even though it stumbled a little, overall I was quite pleased with Metroid: Samus Returns. I managed to beat it in just over 12 hours with 62% map completion, and only got seriously stuck a handful of times. Not only was this remake gorgeous, but it offers a fantastic return to form for the long running series. If you’re a fan of the series, or are just looking for an excuse to jump on board, you can’t go wrong for only $39.99. Best of all, if the ending is any indication, this might not be the last remake of a 2D Metroid we can look forward to! Here’s hoping Samus is around for many years to come, annihilating alien scum and looking great while doing it.
Metroid: Samus Returns will satisfy most, but leaves too much to be desired to be considered a true leap forward.
If you desperately want to show your support with your wallet and want a return to classic gameplay, then Metroid: Samus Returns will give you just that. A pleasant easily digestible experience with enough style and visual gloss to keep you entertained. If you were expecting a more deliberately made installment for hardcore fans or a revolutionary retelling of one of the weaker Metroid experiences, you may want to lower your expectations.
This game tops past 2D Metroid games especially for improving the combat and accessibility. Nintendo and MercurySteam both delivered one of the best Metroidvania experiences ever. welcome back, Samus!

Admittedly, it isn’t perfect, suffering from the same repetitive boss battles and drab environments plaguing its inspirational counterpart, but for those who can look past its minor mishaps (and you should), you’ll find one of the best 2D Metroid games this side of the galaxy.
The best way to play the Metroid game you never knew existed.
Mercury Steam clearly knows what makes a Metroid game a Metroid game, and they've brought that back on the 3DS while adding in a little bit of variation of their own. It's been a long time since Samus got the spotlight, and boy is Samus Returns one heck of a way to come back.
MercurySteam have pulled Samus from the jaws of death and delivered one of the best games in the series. Samus Returns perfects and reimagines the gameplay of 2D Metroid games and delivers one of the best titles on the 3DS. Every self-respecting Nintendo fan should own Metroid: Samus Returns.
Metroid: Samus Returns is a must-purchase for any long-time Metroid fan and a perfect example of the genre. It bodes well for Metroid's future and makes me excited for Samus's next big adventure.
Metroid: Samus Returns is a faithful adaptation or the original game that takes into consideration more than 20 years of improvements in the genre. The result is a familiar combat and exploration experience with a degree of accessibility, filled with challenging situations that highlight the polish and quality of the 3DS controls.

This game is a love letter to Samus Aran. One of the best 2.5D platformers I've ever played. Great visuals, great soundtrack and great new ideas to not only capture the mood of the GameBoy original but improve the whole experience.

Smart improvements and additions make this reimagining of a 25-year-old Game Boy adventure a real treat for modern fans
“Metroid: Samus Returns” is essentially a love letter sealed with a bright red and orange kiss mark for old-school fans of the series. Featuring excellent visuals that take full advantage of the 3DS’ three-dimensional effect, lots of Metroidvania-style exploration and arguably the best combat to grace a 2D Metroid game, calling this a remake honestly doesn’t do it enough justice. It’s a nice return to 2D form for Nintendo’s popular bounty hunter.
Metroid: Samus Returns provides a strong return for the series, but ultimately the source material the remake is based off of holds it back from being more than it is...
Samus' triumphant return deserves a place on your shelf.
'Samus Returns' brings Metroid back from the dead, and it does so in style
Metroid: Samus Returns gives fans what they've always asked for a Metroid game and everyone else gets a phenomenal 2D action-adventure game with one of the most iconic heroes in video game history.
Metroid: Samus Returns is a brilliant return to form after a couple of less than stellar entries in the series in past years. It stays true to what made Metroid great in the first place and by taking an existing title, bringing it up to modern standards and adding new mechanics, MercurySteam have truly delivered an amazing game that presents a great blend between fun exploration and challenging combat. Samus Returns is a game that any Metroid fan will appreciate and can easily be enjoyed by newcomers to the series as well.
