The combination of satisfying combat, excellent story, and open-world exploration makes The Witcher 3 the best in the series, and one of the best games released this year.

Experience is earned largely through quests, which highlights the emphasis on thoughtful storytelling over mindless bloodshed.

From its expansive world to its improved combat, Witcher 3 hits all the right spots for an action RPG and gives you a richer experience the more you put into it. It's not just one of the best games so far this year, it's one of the best games released period.

The Witcher 3 is a superb example of world building and an instant classic in the RPG genre. Even the odd bug and some meat-and-potato systems can't hold CD Projekt's latest back from full marks.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is far more than a fantasy role-playing game. It's an amazingly fleshed-out world that rewards careful, thoughtful exploration. CD Projekt RED didn't just deliver on their promise to craft an open world worthy of author Andrzej Sapkowski's lore—they greatly exceeded it.

Perhaps The Witcher 3 could have done with another month or so of extra development to work out the kinks, but even without the extra time it's an enormously impressive game that proves, in case there was any doubt, that gargantuan games don't need to be stuffed with forgettable filler guff. Any worries that, by making the game open world, CD Projekt Red were just following popular trends should be set aside, because The Witcher 3 dances to its own tune. There isn't an RPG like it out there, not even its predecessors, and its uniqueness should be treasured.

What sets "The Witcher 3" apart from most of the competition is its keen sense of humanity, which is calculated to be every bit as gripping as an HBO drama. At their best, the characters with whom you chat don't seem like they live in a vacuum only to impart useful information.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an impeccable role-playing game, and one of the finest games ever created. Whether it's as large as tracking the Wild Hunt or as small as delivering a love letter, The Witcher 3 makes Geralt's actions count in the most incredible ways - creating a world begging to be explored for countless hours on end.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is truly an incredible masterpiece. The writing and building of the world alone should be lauded as some of the best in video games. Stories weave in and out of one another surprisingly. The consequences of every decision are far reaching and unpredictable while also making complete sense once they happen. The world is organic, dangerous, and fun to explore. There is a true sense of reward and accomplishment. While minor design choices keep it from being absolutely perfect, The Witcher 3 will go down as one of the best games of this generation of consoles.

It is a shining example of what RPGs should be: an experience that makes you believe that you're truly part of a game's world and that you have a very real stake in it. That's exactly what Wild Hunt has achieved here.

Although The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Next-Gen Update isn't an especially noteworthy upgrade, the base game is so superb that the few things it does add are more than welcome.

Judging The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition on its entertainment value is easy – it’s perfect. It has an unbelievable story, compelling characters, solid gameplay, and a properly thought-through backend that shows the developers are all-in on delivering an unforgettable experience. On the next-generation upgrade side of this release, it’s just not complete. While the performance mode takes the experience up a notch with visuals and frame rate, the Ray Tracing mode is unplayable and incomplete. It hurts the experience more than it helps it.
