Despite os some technical issues, PUBG is still one of the best battle royale games out there. Console version is not as polished as the PC original, and controls need some "training", but is is fun and delivers some epic moments.

You just might have to have an abnormally high tolerance for bugs to fully enjoy it.

Having now passed the 1.0 mark and left Steam Early Access, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds remains a diamond in the rough.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is an absolute blast to play and has a broad appeal that few other games can match. As long as you temper your expectations (and make sure you have a decent PC), then this is one of the top games of 2017 to check out.

Even if the developer thinks they invented a genre that's been around for years, their hubris and the game's hype had no impact on this assessment of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. It's a rare occurrence when something makes its way into my weekly rotation of games, and jumping into its crazy world of survival is something I still look forward to after all this time.

PUBG is one of the best multiplayer experiences of the generation, and this is the best version of it so far – even if it's still a work in progress.

PUBG is one of the best multiplayer experiences of the generation, and as technically flawed as this Xbox One version currently is that fact still shines through.

In the face of quicker, louder rivals, PUBG offers a slow and meditative experience. It's not, I would imagine, unlike sitting in a deer blind waiting for an unlucky whitetail to pass below. While PUBG's technical issues are ever-present, they rarely spoil this core experience. This is a buggy game, but they aren't game breaking bugs. They're bugs that make you laugh at best and curse under your breath and reboot the game at worst. You hope they get better. But, you know that, with each game, at the very least, you are.

If you want to be the last man (or woman) standing and wish to play a game closely resembling Battle Royale and The Hunger Games, you'll be hard pressed to find a better game than PUBG, for now.

PUBG is admittedly a game that's poorly designed in many ways and sometimes even non-functional. It's also admittedly one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had in my entire life.

Though ironically beaten to the punch by the likes of H1Z1 and Call of Duty, and tarnished by a handful of shortcomings, PUBG nonetheless remains a commendably inventive and expansive shooter that deftly embodies the Battle Royale genre.

It may be late and it may not be the best looking game of the year, but PUGB is still an enjoyable battle royale, that enriches the PS4 catalogue.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds manages to differentiate itself from its battle royale progeny with its more tactical spin on the formula, even with its obvious lack of presentational prowess. While its grounded approach can be brutal at first, if you take the time to immerse yourself in its stress inducing battles, you'll find yourself involved in epic engagements that will have you sharing your successes – and failures – with anyone willing to listen. It may not be the king anymore, but PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds still more than deserves a place at the top table.

In a time where Battle Royale is all the craze, raking in all that money and not bothering to try to keep up with your competition seems like a stupid idea. Considering PUBG creators sued Epic Games over Fortnite over plagiarism, it becomes pretty apparent that the suit wasn’t over losing money, but out of spite that someone else was making a better version of your game.

While PUBG's Xbox version is still a far cry from perfection, it's a competent port that encapsulates the same Battle Royale experience BlueHole has been providing on PC for a while. Despite the console version still not being quite up to the standard that I'd hope for at the 1.0 update, the experience carries over well and the game is certainly playable if you aren't picky about its performance. If the standard of the PC version of the game is anything to go by, let's just say that the Xbox port could be a hell of a lot worse.

We gave this version a delay of six months for patches, but even now PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds for Xbox One is a terrible and broken game. If you want to try PUBG, play it on PC.

For the time being, Playerunknown's Battlegrounds won - pun intended - the battle royale of battle royales. This new "gold rush" spawned a good number of decent titles, but the one created by Brendan Greene if by far the best and funniest to play (even if there's still room for improvement).
