WWE 2K18 is in desperate need of an overhaul. It's an entertaining game in WWE Universe mode, but most else is beyond retirement age, and many complaints fans have had for years have not been addressed.
You can tell the wrestling giant his age, but real WWE fans will certainly have their fun.

2K's fifth WWE game has all the style and none of the substance of WWE games of old. All show and no actual in-ring talent, everything new in WWE 2K18 is quickly superseded by an uneven graphics engine and a career mode that's certified G for Grody.
WWE 2K18 is the best wrestling game so far. A great variety of wrestlers with a new technical section that finally meets this generation's standards. A great game where you'll always have something to do and Wresling fans will enjoy it as kids.

With some new features and advancements, WWE 2K18 shoots for the title of best wrestling game ever - it just falls a little short where it counts.
What's most disappointing about WWE 2K18 is that there are so many good ideas present. Being able to go backstage and interact with larger-than-life wrestlers should be great fun, not a monotonous annoyance. The goals should add some much needed structure to the career, but instead they're so oddly specific that many players won't be bothered to even advance pass them. That's not even mentioning the horrendous artificial intelligence, which is somehow leaps and bounds worse than previous years. Clearly a lot of work went into this year's installment, but the end result simply did not come together in the slightest.
WWE 2K18 is an upgrade from the previous iteration. It improves on the game's core gameplay, graphics, and creation tools giving wrestling fans a fun experience they will enjoy. However, like previous iterations, the game poses a ton of excellent ideas that fall flat. MyCareer, Road to Glory, and Universe Mode are all fantastic features on paper, but lacks the depth players would want. This is a game built for the WWE Universe; it is for fans of all generations. However, if you play WWE 2K18 without an appreciation for the sport, it would be hard to convince you that it is entertaining.
Even if WWE 2K18 keeps on using the same old engine his predecessors used, the developers clearly improved the game's overall visual presentation. The new MyCareer mode and the Promo Engine 2.0 also add welcomed improvements. WWE 2K18 isn't the brand new game wrestling fans have been asking for years but it offers more than enough to have fun.

WWE 2K18 is a great wrestling game with a crazy amount of depth that feels a bit too similar to 2K17 to really hit new highs. If you love the franchise, however, this will rock your world.
WWE 2K18 is a small, but successful step in the right direction for the series. Being more approachable than ever, it should attract many new players.

The beauty about WWE 2K18 is that it doesn't change much, but the things that they did change matter. Presentation, match flow, as well as keeping MyPLAYER's creation suite and the main game's creative suite separate matters...A LOT. Yeah, there are some flaws in the game, and that comes with the territory of yearly releases, but to indicate that the small changes weren't enough would be giving this game a disservice, and for what we got, it's a decently engaging edition of WWE 2K.
Last year, we noted that WWE 2K17 was a marginally better game than 2K16 was. We could say the same thing about WWE 2K18. It is marginally better. But given that it recycles the same old gameplay mechanics and doesn't add enough to the tried and tested template, it's hard to really recommend WWE 2K18. Been there, done that. Next year, Yuke's needs to give WWE 2K a firm dropkick directly to its lycra-clad arse.
For those who like to create and just want to wrestle without all of the extra noise, WWE 2K18 is still a decent romp – just don’t expect it to change the universe
