The Adventure Pals is a fun, if somewhat average, cartoon platformer that boasts decent gameplay and a healthy amount of collectibles for completionists. The gameplay can become repetitive, and the “random” humor is a bit much for my tastes, but overall Adventure Pals is a perfectly alright platformer.

The Adventure Pals, while endlessly visually appealing, funny, and enjoyable in its light combat, feels far too drawn out due to its lifeless stages, weakening an otherwise delightful experience.

The Adventure Pals may not be the deepest or most challenging game in the platforming genre. Nonetheless, it still manages to stay fun thanks to its topsy-turvy plot, accessibility and the neat ideas that are sewn into the charm of its art style.

Despite being technically competent, The Adventure Pals alas becomes forgettable because of the lack of ambition from the developers. Because of the fear of making mistakes, Massive Monster played it safe, dooming the game to mediocrity. It can still be a fun pastime, though, especially if played with a friend.

Adventure Pals seeks to be the weird alternative game that your kids will love, and it looks attractive because it's reminiscent of a mix of different games and familiar shows. Unfortunately, its unashamed emulation of other works is both glaring and disappointing. What isn't disappointing, though, are the game mechanics, which may be similar to others, but can be framed as a teaching mechanism for game experiences to come. Combined with punchy controls, this makes for a wonderful skeleton of a game, although it's regrettably tightly draped in the likes of superstar media from yesteryear.

The Adventure Pals is a welcome addition to the platforming genre, holding its own due to its quirky story, colourful graphics and accessible gameplay. I fell in love with the game and didn't want to put it down. It's not the most essential, original, or unique that's ever been made, and it has some technical issues, but these are minor complaints in the grand scheme of things.

The Adventure Pals is a great-looking, quirky and irreverent platforming RPG that unfortunately falls a bit flat thanks to levels that lack excitement and outstay their welcome

This doesn't mean that all is lost for lone adventurers, however. With a debt being owed to Castle Crashers and Adventure Time in terms of both humor and visual style, The Adventure Pals has enough going on to keep you interested during the slightly more repetitive sections of play. Had it packed more of a challenge – even if it was optional – The Adventure Pals would be running close to the front of the indie platforming pack. Though the final product doesn't quite get there, it's still plenty enjoyable, especially in co-op.

If you happen to be an Adventure Time super fan that has been dying for a good video game that matches the license, this is the closest you'll get for a while. If you can turn off your brain and enjoy the cartoon graphics and simple gameplay, this is a couple of well-spent hours. But if you have a brain that can't help but dissect the world in front of you, this game might trouble you. The Adventure Pals is nearly a success but ultimately lacks the organic comedy it needed to truly feel magical.

There are several issues marring The Adventure Pals that prevent it receiving my whole-hearted recommendation. Yet, despite these problems, I very much enjoyed my time in its zany embrace. Its quirky characters, breezy story and colourful game world proved to be enchanting, while its solid platforming and combat mechanics, in conjunction with local co-op play, kept me on my couch till the end of the story. If you have a pal to go adventuring with, then The Adventure Pals is well worth a look.

Overall The Adventure Pals is an absurd ride that will definitely grab your kid’s attention, and perhaps even you, who are kids at heart. It’s sure to bring a smile to your face, even on the rainiest of days, just from its cute character designs alone. Although the gameplay itself isn’t the best out there, it’s still fun to play, even if it’s just something to knock out over the weekend.

The Adventure Pals is pure joy for anyone of any age. The eccentric characters bring so much light into your life, along with their comical anecdotes and witty remarks. The gameplay is very laid-back, but hack'n'slashing funky foes makes you feel like a warrior nonetheless. An entertaining escapade follows Wilton, Sparkles the giraffe, and Mr. Rock, even if the challenges aren't, well, challenging.

Whilst The Adventure Pals does little to revolutionise the platforming genre, there’s no denying that its solid game design and charming world come together nicely to make for a delightful little experience. It hooked me in from start to end and, despite not being designed to necessarily cater for co-operative play, smashing through the game with a friend was a lot of fun. If you’re a fan of your quirky little platformers that aren’t afraid to embrace a silly sense of humour, you’ll have a lot of fun with The Adventure Pals.

Colorful, wacky, and fun, The Adventure Pals is an entertaining platformer that’ll give you a reason why you should have your very own giraffe and pet rock as companions. While some levels feel repetitive and the dialogue text size could be tweaked, it’s a purrrtastic adventure to play on your favorite console.

The Adventure Pals is heavily influenced in both art style and humor by Adventure Time, and fans of the series will have no problem getting used to the slightly different aesthetic. Fortunately, it’s also a win for those who are not familiar with the series as its cute animations and repulsive dad jokes will leave you feeling solidly at home.
